your concern for the Seton Hall AD is noted.

seriously i do have a question for the folks who prefer "going with ten for a few years" just what are you waiting for? The budding rivalry between Seton Hall and Butler to develop due to home and homes every year as opposed to every other year? Waiting for the Pope to demand that ND join the Catholic BE? Waiting for a ACC or AAC school to decide that its going to turn its back on the millions invested in FBS football move to FCS or disband the program all together to join the BE? Waiting on the next school to get a president on Marquette's board of trustees? Waiting on Duquesne to rise from the ashes? Waiting for teleporters to be invented so zaga can be added?

I'm curious will all the start at ten and then look around after a few years posters please advise WTF they plan to be looking at?

While I am not a stay at ten person. I would love to expand and soon. However, I do believe as of right now I don't want any more teams to be added for the fall(with the exception of associates obviously including your beloved Bellarmine who I am a fan of being added Tomorrow) the current sense of stability I think makes us look good. While I strongly understand the scheduling challenges and difficulties of going to 11 schools, the only school I really want to add right now is SLU honestly I just don't think there are any good candidates and if 11 we could pull of scheduling wise I say it do it Tomorrow. I also am not sure that an FBS school would have to drop football to join, I don't see why if for some reason a suitable FBS school wants to join as a full member and put football somewhere else why we would say no. If they were willing to split their programs and they fit whatever criteria then I don't see why not. Additionally I don't know that the realignment has stabilized enough to the point where it might not be advantageous to wait a little bit longer and see if someone really valuable becomes available I don't know who that might be but if theres no great 12th team I'm not sure we should add anyone just to get to 12. Again I would love for us to expand to 12 or maybe even beyond but it has to be smart expansion.

Consensus on the #12 team.

I think what people want is that 'slam dunk' 12th team. I'm kinda happy either way right now; I'm pleased with the 10 teams we have now, but do see the advantage of 12. I think St. Louis has good support for being an 11th team (and I would be fine with staying there as well; leaving one Saturday per team open to schedule a strong OOC game isn't as bad in my opinion as some may profess), but there doesn't seem to be much consensus on who 12 would be.

And yes, until the grant of rights in the ACC (assuming that is for all sports, not just football?), I think there was a hope from some that the ACC would lose a few of its stronger football schools and Notre Dame would bail and come to us to keep their football program independent.

I think the Presidents may be waiting to get a 12th team that will make the rest of the college basketball world say "Good pickup!" instead of "well, someone had to be #12".

Oh well i guess it just doesn't make much sense to me. If we assume that SLU is number 11 and the question is 12 i don't see what a few years will do. Dayton will still be west of the Appalachians and located near Cincy, Richmond will still be a wealthy albeit smaller institution on the East Coast. VCU will still be the at best 4th best public institution in the state and Gonzaga i don't see relocating from the moon anytime in the near future.

Dayton and Richmond while both having ups and downs have been basically quality programs since the 50's, I don't see any reason that would suggest that the trend would be otherwise in the future. Its simple if you want the easy east coast midwest split take Richmond. If you want the larger and more similar school take Dayton. It will be the same choice now as it will be in the next few years.

I agree. I will also add that it's incredible how perspective changes with time. Two years ago, Richmond was coming off 2 Top 25 finishes and a Sweet 16. Saint Louis was, well, not the 'slam dunk' everyone thinks they are now.

Who knows how the perceptions will change in another year or two.

I don't think St. Louis is considered a slam dunk because of basketball, though. The recent success just makes them a more comfortable choice. Were they a slam dunk they'd have been 10, or we'd have gone to 11 straight away. You don't pass up slam dunks.

For the record i have never said that St. Louis is a slam dunk (or any other school in that regard). I was assuming based on the comments made in the previous post. (While i prefer St. Louis and think that STL has the edge i have previously stated that i think the league will be fine with a Dayton/Richmond selection) I also agree with Moliva it is impressive to see how peoples opinions of schools change, and I have posted multiple times that i don't think Slu or any other school should be added due to any recent success. Personally i am not as enamored with simply chasing the latest hot name or simply counting up arbitrary accolades. I personally recommend not looking at a schools best or worst seasons and instead focusing on their long term body of work.

Duly noted and my comment wasn't directed at you. It's more directed at the several comments that i've seen like "Saint Louis is the only obvious choice" or "Lets just bring in Saint Louis and stop at 11" that have been laced through this thread and others.

And I agree with the Marquette poster. If Saint Louis was the slam dunk that some people think they are ... they would be admitted already.

LOL since i got blasted in the lacrosse thread for the SEC references i propose a ban on the Slam dunk reference. Most of the C7 wouldn't even qualify as a slam dunk (honestly i'd be laughed out of any bar here in KY to suggest any BE school as a slam dunk) and I can easily shoot valid holes in the resumes of the +3. In reality in college basketball the only slam dunks are Kentucky, Kansas, U of L, Duke, NC, and the ilk. None of these schools are going to be going to the BE. The only potential institutional Slam Dunk is ND and well i'm laying off that pipe. There are schools that fit nicely with the BE and that happens to be your choice of Slu-Dayton-Richmond.

And in regards to that Marquette poster... he is right more ofthen that what is good for him and becoming a threat to my oatmeal.... i am currently in contact with the enforcers who handled the Seton Hall AD to take care of that situation... you will not have to worry about him much longer... Nobody **** with Fiber... Nobody...
