Screw the Catholic 7 if this is how it's going to go

Postby xman » Sun Jan 06, 2013 8:50 am

So the Catholic 7 schools wants to make sure they get at least $5 million bucks a year and let Xavier and Butler get "less than half". WTF? I'm starting to think that we should get our own conference started. Xavier, Butler, SLU, Dayton, Creighton, Richmond, Wichita State, St. Joes, George Mason, Richmond is a good start.

Do DePaul and Providnece really think they should get twice as much as what Xavier and Butler get? Crazy egotistical muthas. Can you tell this pisses me off?

even at 2 million that is more than 5 times what they are currently getting. Let me ask you this, if a recruiter called you and offered you a new job for 5 times what you are currently making, would you take it?

Long term this is a terrible thing for the conference. Ask the Toronto Bluejays and Tampa Bay Rays how they feel about unequal revenue distribution.

Creighton fan here. I'm not sure if we will even be asked, but I would be very opposed to us joining the new conference with these terms. I would suggest that the presidents of whichever are the invited schools sit down together and discuss their own options. If the new schools could work together toward a more equal revenue plan that's one thing. The C7 would be a joke though if it couldn't get XU, BU, SLU, DU, or CU. If all five said no to the plan, enjoy have Duquesne and Richmond as your league mates.

I would be upset if Dayton accepted that offer.

You can't have a league where members get different amounts. Texas tried this in the Big 12 and it caused Nebraska to bolt and created enough ill will among other members that eventually Texas A& M and Missouri bolted as well.

You can't create a new conference with a lack of trust.

If this is a temporary situation, that is one thing. If it is permanent, its a deal breaker for me.

The problem with that logic is that many of the proposed additions have been better over the last 5-10 years than a lot of the BE 7 schools! Why should Depaul, Seton Hall and Providence get more money that Butler and Xavier for example?

It also creates a class system that will always hurt the new schools' ability to compete.

Which is why it would sense XU, BU, UD, CU and SLU to be united on this. It's all five or none of us. Your move C7.

Brilliant. So who has the leverage here?
