Their olympic sports team are by and large vastly better than the rest of the C7.

One year deal, maybe.

Which is why Notre Dame likely would not come because of us. Their coming would be Fox's doing one way or another, and probably a result of the ACC not working. This thread wasn't meant to be scenarios we think will happen, but what we would need to be happy with a move to 14. If it happens to be an unlikely scenario, then you probably just don't want to see 14.

UMass! After Calipari they fell off the radar, we want them?

I will be absolutely shocked if the 5 eastern schools hand over the majority of the conference to the mid-west, geographically speaking. I really don't think we'll be seeing 7 mid-west schools and 5 eastern schools in a 12 team conference, let alone if they go to 14. I fully expect another eastern school to come on board to level things out. Georgetown, Nova, St Johns, SH, and Prov have too much pride for the east and I imagine they'll want to keep a balance of power on their side. The heart of the conference is in the east, especially with MSG back in the picture.

I could be wrong... Seeing as I don't have Bill's oatmeal and/or fiber intake...

I guess the question comes down to do you want to bring in the 5 best overall programs.

Or the 5 programs that look good on a map.

If you want to bring in the 5 best programs available this side of the Rockies. (That are private universities and have Basketball as their primary revenue sport)

Then they are

Butler
Creighton
Dayton
St. Lou
Xavier

That is what gives the new conference the 5 strongest programs with the best fan base and TV markets.

Take politics out - and those are the 5 best - and that is why those 5 have been mentioned the most in the past week as the 5 being added. It probably means either Dayton or Xavier gets put in the East.

Dayton vs Richmond has been debated for months now, so I wont even touch that. Both are solid options and both have a lot to offer. I would be more than happy with either program in the new conference.

But I have heard a lot of rumors and speculations. I've heard rumors that Marquette and DePaul want Creighton, rumors that Georgetown and Nova want Richmond. Obviously all 7 want Xavier and Butler. And I've heard rumors that Fox, as well as other schools, want SLU. But over the last few months I've yet to hear a rumor that anyone is actually lobbying for Dayton. They've been in every discussion, but is any one actually pulling for them? In fact, the only rumor I've heard is that Xavier is actually against Dayton because they want the recruiting market to themselves.

I could certainly be wrong on this, and I'm sure there are plenty of articles I've missed along the way, but I think the east coast school wins out here. And I still strongly believe the 5 east coast schools will add at least one more toward the coast. And there's more to it than just looking good on the map.

There have been rumors that nobody is lobbying for Dayton. Early on, I think, there was also a rumor that St. John's was lobbying for Dayton.

My Oatmeal thinks that Dayton still has a good chance to get in... and the reason there are no more rumors about lobbying is because in all reality all the decisions have been made.

In all seriousness I don't think anyone really sees this league going to 14. I think the first post was clear that this was more of a pipe dream. That said there are two intriguing issues here.

1. East Coast v. Midwest Richmond v. Creighton/Dayton. I agree i think it looks cleaner with an clear east midwest split. Plus i could see where the east coast bias might want an additional east coast team. Marketwise i could see where it would not matter as much to Fox as the Omaha, Richmond, and Dayton Markets are pretty similar in size. As far and institutional and long term basketball potential i think its pretty much a wash with a advantage to Creighton and Dayton. When you come to facilities and fan bases Creighton and Dayton are locks. The question is is Ohio to far west for the east coast? Dayton is in eastern time. Dayton fans also travel well which might appeal to MSG (hence why St. Johns might have wanted them). I personally think (against the advice of my oatmeal) that Dayton and Creighton should be in.

2. Notre Dame... Lets face it ND is only using the c7 to expedite their exit to the ACC. ND has the same bargaining power as the C7 in that it was one of the 3 entities that comprised the old Big East. If i put on my green colored sunglasses i can see where ND would want to go to the C7 over the ACC and with an independent FBS team they could make it happen. The ND would solve all the C7s non rev problems in a split conference would likely be placed with the 5 east coast teams, and people forget about Richmond. That said i firmly believe that ND will go to the ACC. Richmond is then most likely safe due to its east coast proximity and the non-rev sports that it brings to play.

The only teams that should feel comfortable are the three teams that are joining immediately.

The rest are just prospectives that are either staring from the front of the pack or both. Regardless, if the adds are next year, the year after that, or 5 years from now, that's an eternity in conference realignment. The set could be drastically different when we move to 12.

I would imagine if they are waiting to add 2 schools from the A-10 until 2014/15 season - that has to do with the extra $2 Mil in exit fees combined those schools would have to pay. If that is the case - then there would be no reason not to announce all 12 teams at once.

This would also be fair from the recruiting perspective. As those selected should get a pump in the level of recruit they can sign.

So one way or the other - I hope all the teams they are adding are announced this week. Plus the waiting is just tooo painful.

I get the feeling that there is no lobbying for Dayton because Dayton is in. There is no lobbying for Xavier or Butler either. Look, I AM NOT saying Dayton is in the same rare air as X and Butler, just that there isn't any lobbying for any of the three, because all three are in. It's the last two slots that need to be lobbied for.
