Hearing Creighton is #10

Postby JohnT » Mon Mar 04, 2013 9:34 am

My people have said that the decision is already made and parties have been notified. Waiting to see if it will be a 10 member only league or 11 team league with Notre Dame added for one year. The C7 want to move with 10 but Fox is more than willing to go to 11 next year if Notre Dame is available.

So according to your sources, Creighton is #10 next year EVEN if Notre Dame joins for a year? Me likey!

Today, Andy Katz giving Creighton some love in his 3 point shot and Dougie is scheduled to be on their podcast today:

3. Creighton drew 18,613 fans to the Missouri Valley Conference title showdown against Wichita State Saturday in Omaha. The Bluejays regularly draw 17,000 and rank sixth nationally in attendance. The majority of the departing Big East Catholic 7 schools would love to average that attendance. And this is exactly why Creighton is the favorite to be the 10th team when the league is formed with Xavier and Butler. The new Big East wants basketball-centric schools where the facilities and fan base provide a basketball atmosphere that rivals any other school in the country. Flying to Omaha is a connection through Chicago for a number of schools. Providence, Seton Hall, DePaul and St. John's should and likely will welcome Creighton. Marquette is already on board. Georgetown and Villanova shouldn't have issues, either.

Let's be clear about this. ND is NOT joining nor should we even consider giving them a lifeline if they did want in for a year. No chance, no how. Let's end this silly charade now.

Providence. I was just looking back to my very first post and I think what was true then is still true now although the timetable has been moved up:

New here. Good site. I've enjoyed reading and thought I would share what I heard this morning from a source who is closely connected to the Providence family. He said the current proposal being discussed tomorrow is to add Xavier, Butler, and Creighton. SLU and Dayton are also likely to get offers but not 100%. With the legal issues don't expect this to be in place for next season, but probably 2014.

I think your right there is no way the C7 made the decision to leave... Fox give an offer.. and wait this long if the decision as to what schools were being added was still being discussed. even if the start of the league was to be in 2014 or there was to be a gradual increase from 10 to 12 this decision would have been made prior to announcing their intention to leave the C7.

JohnT, I have contacts at Providence as well, and I was given the exact same information: Xavier, Butler, and Creighton for 2013 and SLU and Dayton in 2014. No ND ever. Works for me - it will be a great hoops conference.
