Number 10 and then number 12

With the recent reports of Butler and X joing the C7 for next year, my thoughts move on to team number ten. I can't help but hope Notre Dame joins for the long hall. I realize this isn't likely because of the need for bowl tie ins, but if ND can somehow work out bowl tie ins, I would love nothing more than to have ND in the league. Sure ND is a flight risk if they are ever forced to join a football conference to have access to the national title game. But they are clearly worth the risk.

Even if ND only needs a temp home for a year before joining the ACC, I would love them to stay with the C7. It kind of supports that the C7 league is the successor of the original Big East. In addition having ND in conference for the first year will help with exposure.

Now if Notre Dame is not available, the question should become which team should be number 10 for 2013-2014. If the rumers are true that the new league is picking up all exit cost for the teams. Its probably a no brainer to pick up Creighton this year (50K exit fee), and pick up which ever two A-10 teams that are going to be snagged since their exit fee will be $2 million for the 2013-2014 season and only $1 million for the 2014-2015 season.

I still don't think it's likely Notre Dame joins for next year let alone for the long haul.

Adding SLU and Dayton next year saves $2M. Plus fewer mouths to feed for a year at least.
