I saw that story on Ram Nation.

I feel bad if it happened, but I don't believe that account. If true, that person has a gripe.
VCU got their butts kicked, so let's make up a story to make SLU look bad. I went to the CBI game in St. Louis, and thought it was a fine time.

VCU got an asswhooping and NOTHING anyone says can diminish what happened on the court. That's orthogonal, though, to the comment I was responding to. Believe it or not, but plenty of people have experienced similar stuff.

There are jerks everywhere, associated with every program. We could all point to a few cases of a fan from another team acting like an idiot or worse toward us, especially in their buildings. I'm not going to crucify an entire fanbase because of that. It would be different if hundreds of people routinely were picking fights, cursing or threatening opposing fans.

Some saying about glass houses comes to mind. I recall a certain tale the W&M fans like to tell about VCU fans' treatment of the homeless.

I'm not one to condone mistreatment of opposing fans and i also expect there are bad eggs in all teams fan bases. I just don't know if you can take one post from a teams board the day after a big loss and say well there you go. I read that board and it looked like outside of that one post most people were saying good things about SLU and that everyone was basically ignoring that poster so who knows (i think that every message boards have trolls who.

I do know that as a Cubs fan who lived in STL for over 10 years I never had any trouble worth reporting. I just can't see the SLU fans getting all emotional about VCU. Yeah its a big win as they were ranked but other than that not even out the scale. In fact until this week the only time we had played VCU was in the CBI and every SLU, and lets face it the CBI while a nice tourney and fun to watch isn't really worth getting all hot and bothered. I doubt most St. Louis fans or 90% of the country for that matter had even heard of VCU prior to those games so I doubt they were going out of their way to cause problems.

On a side note if the opposing fans cheering "overrated" bothers you (a common occurrence when ranked teams lose to unranked ones). I suggest not going to watch a game at temple and maybe a move back to a more laid back colonial conference is in order.

Nah, chants of "overrated" don't bother me in the slightest. Threatening to throw a woman down the stairs? Yeah. That bothers me. As for the CBI, it's cool that you were there, but you were there as a Bill's fan so, shocker, your experience was that everything was lovely. I'm pretty sure plenty of people had heard of the team that gave the Krzyzewski-coached Blue Devils their first first-round loss since 1996. It snapped their string of nine straight Sweet 16 appearances, breaking the longest active streak and second-longest behind North Carolina's 13-year run. So, yes, plenty people in the country had heard of VCU at that point. They'd probably heard of Saint Louis too, but mostly in relation to poop towels and child-abusing coaches. You're right, though, that the atrocious behavior isn't the result of us being super important to SLU, or anyone else for that matter. It's just trashy fans.

Actually, i never said i was at the CBI did watch it though... I think you have me confused with someone else...
I did say i was a cubs fan in STL and trust me the odds of getting heckled in st louis is much higher as a cubs fan then as a VCU fan. Hell people where mizzou stuff to STL games all the time (yes its annoying) trust me they would go down the stairs way before you. I think if something did happen (which now i'm heavily suspect you must have been instigating something)

and i think you have SLU confused with Penn State but seeing how your comments have moved to complete senseless bashing im guessing your just trolling. (serious poop towels? whats that even supposed to mean?) does one loss embitter you so much? I'm going to have to differ to Richmond fans and their expertise on the matter. Is this typical of VCU fans or is just one of them random odd balls?

Now this is funny. I was just at the Creighton-WSU game in Wichita this year and not only did nobody spit on me but I had almost no problems whatsoever either at the bar before the game or at the arena. At the start of the game one guy in front of me was a bit too fired up but when he realized I wasn't going to be a dick then he calmed down and by the end of the game he was asking me about Creighton and the C7. Then probably 2 hours after the game we were at a restaurant and when we were leaving a guy mockingly said "tough luck today" or something but he was the only one and it was hardly hostile. And it was not only me, I know quite a few people who went to that game and I didn't hear of a single problem. I've also never heard from a past player that they've gotten spit on.

I have no idea how stories like this get made up and passed down. It reminds me of a Husker fan that used to visit the Creighton board. After every Creighton-NU game he'd run to his board and tell all these horror stories of his interactions with Creighton fans that you know he made up beforehand. He even said his tires were slashed once.

With that being said, I'm not a huge fan of WSU "internet" fans. Every fanbase has a bad group of the annoying keyboard warriors but theirs goes way beyond anyone else's in annoyance and numbers.

It's from the deadspin article about Rick Majerus as an ---hole coach. Rick never denied anything in that deadspin story, nor did he much care to. The VCU poster isn't the one who posted the story on Ramnation. He's just relaying it.

Chaim,

I think your completely right, outside of a few odd balls i figure most people at games are decent enough. Now there are people out there for all teams that get drunk and act like @$$holes but check your newspaper their in your neighborhood too. Likewise the internet is full of people who sling mud and start rumors just check any article on yahoo and read the comments. I don't think there is any one school, location and region, where this stuff happens more than any other.

Now i know out in cali they have had a crazy rash of beatings after some sports events, but i've gone to hundreds of basketball, football, baseball, hockey and soccer games across the country without any real problems nor have have ever personally met anyone who has. When it does happen its tragic but far from a sign that the entire fan base is that way. furthermore i suspect that most accusations are, shall we say sensationalized by over zealous fans on the keyboard.
