Newark, N.J. - A Marquette official said Tuesday night that major portions of a Washington Post story about a new league with two divisions of six teams each wasn't true.

According to the story, the East division would be Georgetown, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Providence and either Richmond or Siena. The West or Midwest division would be Marquette, DePaul, St. Louis, Xavier, Dayton and Butler.

Marquette doesn't see Richmond or Siena as part of its new league.

It was also reported that Georgetown President John J. DeGioia is the person "who has been charged with piecing together the new league" because the six other Catholic 7 presidents are interested in the process.

Marquette disputed that, too.

Marquette sure has a lot to say about this don't they? I haven't heard much from DePaul or Seton Hall, but MU.. blah blah blah.

Reading inbetween the lines, if he is refuting Detroit/Siena, but not Xavier/Butler/SLU/Dayton/Richmond, sounds like those will be the five.

Read it again, Richmond and Sienna are refuted by MU source...
Marquette doesn't see Richmond or Siena as part of its new league.

therefore the teams mentioned but not refuted are St. Louis, Xavier, Dayton and Butler.... which is still only 11 teams. If St. Louis is in I say Creighton has to be in... the whole mississippi thing has already been disqualified because St. Louis IS west of the muddy miss. :D

He initially said Richmond and Sienna were refuted and changed it to Detroit and Sienna.
