It's time for the Big East name to be put to bed. Neither this new conference nor the remaining "BE" teams should use it.

The Big East, for me, was about games against the likes of Syracuse and UConn and historic moments like St. John's, Nova and GTown making the final four together. It's Chris Mullin, Patrick Ewing and Walter Berry. It's Carnasecca and Boeheim.

Time to start building a new brand and new memories.

I agree. The big east that we loved has been dying for some time. I would opt to add Xavier, Butler, St. Louis, Dayton and Richmond. This would give the new conference 12 teams, with two six team divisions - six eastern and six mid-west schools, all private, with much in common. As for a new name, I would suggest "Metro" Conference.

C-USA likely owns that name. Besides, why name yourself after a dead conference even if they don't?

Hey, it was just a suggestion. It's tough to come up with a name when you have two geographic regions to represent. All the schools are situated in metro areas, thus the name. I've no idea if another conference has a copyright on "Metro," and I doubt you do. As far as a dead conference is concerned, the old Metro has been gone for quite a while. At this point, it won't be easy coming up with something novel and catching.

I wasn't criticizing you, I was just pointing out that there are issues with "Metro". The Great Midwest and The Metro combined to create C-USA in the 90's. I would assume they still owned those brands right after the merger, but whether or not they still have them I know not. Would it be that surprising they still held an old brand from their history? I understand "metropolitan" being used, but you have to avoid naming yourself after a not so long dead, major conference.

I hope there is a better name out there. I just look around and see the Big Ten, with 14 teams; the Big 12, with ten teams; and the Atlantic Ten, with 16 teams. Others, such as America East and Conference USA seem a bit much, especially considering their memberships. If the new conference hires the right commishioner, I think he'll figure it ouy.

Favorites of the day:

Zenith Conference (cool logo with a Z)

Big Apple Conference (the teams can come from anywhere but MSG would love this and gladly keep our tourney there)

Metro Conference isn't bad since it was a basketball conference.

Remember, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) still exists.
Just mentioning it...

Yes, but their shortened form is MAAC, not Metro. The former major conference had "Metro" in their logo and was what the conference was known by, but it was short for some awfully long name people don't remember. I like the idea of using metropolitan in the name of the conference, it makes sense, but just using some simple name like Metro Conference could be trouble. That's all I'm saying, not that the word metropolitan cannot be used.

Cosmopolitan is a synonym for both metropolitan and catholic (not Catholic), how about Cosmopolitan Conference.
