Yorost, Not an elementary playground? Are you sure?
I apologize, as I guess I was misinformed. Hopefully the schools will indeed make a business dcision. The postings on the board are a different type of horse.
Actually, the decision seems to require complicated calculations and projections. With all of the instability floating through the nation's leagues, I'd hope they carefully determine what they want, and what will be structured to endure.
What we post is fun, but more like playground stuff.

I'm the same way. I think that having one school that is substantially different from all of the other members of the conference is going to be a problem at some point. I think that is aggravated when the one school has a separate mission, substantially different enrollment and remarkably weaker admission standards.

I get VCU's basketball success. My concern has nothing to do with that. While conferences are ostensibly for athletics, the more alike the schools, their culture and their respective interests are, the greater the long term stability of the conference. I would hope that with everything the BE 7 schools have been through, stability would be a legitimate concern.

VCU doesn't fit the profile. The more I think about it I don't see them being invited.

Congrats on the big win. If they C-7 folks don't already know it, a lot of these C-7 + arenas are tough places to win.

I don't think anyone thinks these will be pushover teams added. The BE7 wants good arenas and good teams, not pushovers. The hope is they will be tough places and teams to play. That's the Big East now, that's what fans and, I would bet, the programs hope to recreate as best as possible. That tough conference slate is a wonderful thing.

Now we have rumors Notre Dame might be considering the BE7 over the ACC. I rather doubt it, but there it is.

I agree. I should have said I was stating the obvious.

From Joe Lunardi, most of it reiterates previous rumors:

a) Butler and Xavier already committed

b) Conference does not want to go over 10, tv would be what makes it 12

c) Dayton not looking good because other options have been better at earning credits

Once teams are in conference, the total conference record is going to be .500. So isn't the most important thing, when picking a conference member, the number of nonconference wins they achieve which helps boost the RPI of other conference members, whether they win a conference game or not?

I'd have to look at the numbers closer, but it wouldn't be surprising if conference play is a direct negative affect on rpi of strong conferences. .500 play across the board lowers the winning percentage of any conference above .500 in OOC play. More games in conference would make that a bigger impact. That doesn't mean if would be better with fewer conference games, since they'd have to replace them with OOC games that may or may not be good for rpi. If more conference games means getting rid of rpi 250+ OOC games then it's probably a positive thing.

Rpi is so amiss to what we view it as, though, it's a ranking on results and not a ranking on quality. It's not even a good one, at that. The NCAA must move on at some point. The problem, as I see it, is that all the systems developed focus on trying to judge quality, not results. These models are interested in predicting games, not judging seasons. The NCAA doesn't want that, they want a system that ranks results. If anyone wants to replace it they need to offer what the NCAA wants and show it is better than RPI, potentially a hard thing to judge. Predictors are easy to judge, rankers are not.

Quick thought on Creighton...

When the A-10 added VCU and Butler, why do you guys think they passed on Creighton? Honest question.
