Do we want to be called the "Big East"

I have yet to hear a decent new name.
"East" probably shouldn't be included, especially if the league winds up with a MidWest 7/East 5 split as we appear headed towards.
The BE name & logo are great marketing tools that recruits recognize & announcers don't stumble over.
The football conference needs a new identity @ least as much as the basketball conference & has the same or even less geographical "Eastness".
You just don't hear about it because nobody cares about that conference other than using it as a reference point for realignment gone wild.
I'd avoid numbers, geography & more than 2 words in the name of any new conference.

I say grab the "Big Atheletic Conference" name before the Big 10 and Big 12 do. Let them stick with their wrong numbers and let the Big East and Big West and Big South keep their geographically limits as well.

I'd be worried that words like "elite" sound a bit pretentious. We should figure out a way to be called the BCS. Brethren Catholic Schools. No one could say we weren't a BCS league then.

Name ideas:

Cardinal League (cardinal means "first")
Pinnacle League
Renaissance League
Ascent League
Visionary League
Heritage League* - my favorite

...man this is harder than I thought. We all laughed at Horizon League & Summit League, but those names are actually cool. I suspect the new league will go with something generic but "uplifting" like those.

I've tried to approach it from the viewpoint of a high school recruit, as in "it's always been my dream to play in the _________".
No conference name ever starts out as a slam dunk, history & success create the mystique.
Like you said, Horizon & Summit sound like "real" conference names now but were probably greeted with "Huh"?
Hopefully there are much brighter people than me hard @ work on this!
