Yeah, scholarship limits are completely irrelevant the way NIL is now. When you're already giving a kid 6-7 figures/year to play for you, the cost of tuition is hardly noticeable.

There is still only 1 ball though. It's going to be difficult to keep a team together when 8-9 guys max are ok with rotations and most of the rest unhappy.

Yes and No. The full cost of tuition at most Big East schools has to be $50-75k, right? Not sure what everyone’s NIL is like, but if a school can guarantee $100k, it doesn’t move the needle nearly enough if the kid has to pay their own way because they aren’t on scholarship.

When top 30 recruits and top 60 transfers are accepting walk-ons then the money is clearly working for them. All that matters is whatever St. John's is offering is more than (or similar to) the competition + scholarship. Could get out of hand with some schools but happy that St. John's is in this position of strength.

Kid wants $100k, school says we don't have a scholarship so here's $175k (or whatever $100k + tuition is) instead so you can pay your own way and still net your $100k. NIL absolutely circumvents scholarship limits for schools with the NIL funds available to afford it.

A scholarship covers a lot more then school, room and board. It covers medial staff visits, gear, strength and conditioning, travel, nutrition and a lot more. How are the schools going to financially account for non-scholarship player with NIL for all those things that they wouldn't provide for a standard walk-on? Do they send them a bill? :D

I'm pretty sure walk-ons get gear, strength & conditioning, meals, tutoring, etc, just like those on scholarship.

I’m seriously not sure how to process all of this…..20+ years of irrelevancy had me pretty much numb…..I finally feel hopeful that we might actually start having some success…..
