By the way, what is everyone's opinion on Georgetown looking to grab the coach of a fellow Big East school ? It's never happened before and there is no excuse, and i can't believe the Hoyas are doing this. If true, this is bad bad behavior, almost unforgivable.

Right, totally. And at this point, even if he stays, Georgetown has caused this week to be a complete sh-tshow for us. Distracting and annoying, messing up our heads worse that they already are.

I think Val needs to have a talk with the Hoyas.

I'm actually now rooting for Mike Brey to the Hoyas. Are there any of our Georgetown friends reading all this? Any thoughts?

I don't think they have anything to be embarrassed about. Hoyas need to clean up their house and they think Cooley would do it. What's interesting to me is that Cooley hasn't shut the rumor down.

It'd be a scummy move if the Georgetown and Cooley move happens.

As for Pitino, I'm pretty sure at this point he's going to St. John's. I've heard since August that he prefers staying in New York, and the narrative of reviving St. John's from the dead I'm sure plays to his ego. At Providence he'd basically have to replicate what Cooley did (at a minimum), but at St. John's he could just win a Tournament game or reach the BET semis and he'd do something that hasn't been done here in 23 years.

Not to say Providence doesn't have some advantages, it does, but I'd be surprised if he goes anywhere besides St. John's.

Completely agree. Some conferences have rules against this sort of thing. The Big East should to. Tampering with another school’s coach flies in the face of the idea that a conference is a partnership and a collaboration in the interests of the greater good of all members. This kind of cutthroat tactic completely undermines that.

It's a bummer, cause I would rather have another great coach added to the league than the same coach shifted around. But I like it better than another conference grabbing one of our better coaches. Also, makes rivalries a little spicier.

I can only remember Texas poaching from Texas Tech in recent years. Maybe this happens more frequently in football?

Georgia hired Mike White from Florida (one year ago yesterday, i believe).

This is a fluid situation, but I think it's way too early to conclude that a football school like Penn State is a better job than Georgetown.

I’m not saying that Penn State is a better job than Georgetown. What I’m saying is that there’s risk involved precisely because this is such a fluid situation. I would exercise caution if I were Shrewsberry not because iof what is known but because of what is unknown. Anyone here do risk assessment for a living?

There would certainly be risk in moving to Georgetown, fair enough. I think there's also risk in trying to get outgunned PSU to stay competitive in the B10 vs. Georgetown in the Big East. We do have a couple of examples where I think the coach might have thought similarly..

-Sean Miller coming back to Xavier over South Carolina
-Thad Matta declined Georgia offer
-Rick Pitino rejecting Maryland and possibly coming back to the BE

We'll see about Pitino, but I think there's enough variables in the equation that make coaching destinations a case-by-case situation. A lot of what you wrote is a long term projection. I don't think coaches look 10, or even 5 years into the future.
