Here's a challenging question

Who ends up ALL BIG EAST 1st team? This is freaking' crazy!

I don't see any way to keep Hawkins and Kam Jones from getting top honors. If true, this becomes a delightful log jam. Xavier has 4 of the top 15 BE scorers.....they could easily land 2 spots. Isn't Bryce Hopkins a no brainer? Does the level production among the BlueJay stars keep them from landing a spot? What do you do with HUGE numbers guys like Soriano, Spears or Kolek? Is it possible that POY Sonogo doesn't make it?

Here goes-

POY- Bryce Hopkins
Souley Boum
Jordan Hawkins
Kam Jones
Zach Freemantle
Ryan Kalkbrenner

I would come across as a complete "fanboy" if I added Colby Jones....but he STARS for any team in the country!

The Jays situation is very interesting. I agree that Kalk can make first team because of defense and rebounding on top of scoring. The rest of CU's starters are sharing the ball--which is great for those of us who want to see them win games--but they aren't generating numbers that typically yield votes on all BEast teams.

From what I can tell based on player interviews and the word around town, Jays starters really do just want to win and don't necessarily have to 'get theirs' to be happy. Nembhard may be a bit of an exception--I feel like he's much more active defensively when he's scoring. If he has 7 assists in a game, he doesn't have the same look as when he has 15 points.

To me an important question is what will it take for UConn to get their mojo back? We've seen how absolutely amazing that team can be on both ends of the floor, but they are struggling, and I haven't seen then enough to have an idea why. Anyone know what's up?

This is what I saw watching on TV. The difference in Wednesday’s 2nd half was that UConn abandoned their standard man to man D and switched to a couple of different pressure matchup zones. They looked like a different team than the one that was out there in the first half and more like the one that went 13-0. We’ll see if these changes are permanent or were simply employed out of desperation when they were down by 15 at the half. As for Xavier, they are just an amazing shooting team, hitting 50% of their 3’s in that game. Tough to beat a team when it shoots like that, as UConn found out. Great road win for X.

Freemantle still has a shot, but missing those games probably slides him down to 2nd team. I guess Sanogo gets selected in his place. TyKo gets the nod over Kam Jones.....some are predicting POY for him....that would be a helluva story!

IMO Kolek will probably get MVP.

The other 5 first teamers (remember BE does 6 with MVP)

Boum
Hawkins
Jones
Hopkins

I think those are locks
the other 1 gets really interesting

Sanago--leading scorer in BE? or,
Kalk, Freemantle--- injury missed times hurt?

Do votes get split and a dark horse emerges? Prosper?

Interesting stuff this year.

Devin Carter needs to get some love.

Hawkins passed up Hopkins on Saturday..... now BE scoring leader with 319 vs 313 for Bryce. Probably will come down to the 2nd half of game 20 to crown a scoring leader. Hopkins also has a decent rebounding edge over Nunge for 2nd behind Soriano. A league 2nd in both scoring and boards, on a solid PC squad, is a strong resume for POY.

Kolek seems to be the sexy pick though. His 14+ pts and 7.5 assists is impressive, but Boum sits at roughly 16/5 which is not too shabby. Of course playing for the conference champions is heavily weighted in TyKo's favor.

Soriano has logged a ridiculous 16/11.5 and is not in the conversation.

Soriano has far less impact on a game than his stats might suggest.
