As far as fans throwing stuff, that was nothing. They handed out blue towels for a charity program the school supports. I get that Mac needed to address it, but it wasn’t really anything.

Still not exactly the epitome of classy. If you look around and you're the only person saying "what we threw at you wasn't even a big deal" then you're still the problem. Not one other instance of another fan base throwing things at opposing benches this year.

I didn’t see anything thrown at the bench. Must’ve missed that. However, the way Shaka acted throughout the game, was a little bit classless too. Not condoning just pointing out his “act” could certainly be taken as inflammatory.

A fan at the game on MU's forum mentioned beer being tossed at MU.

What was it that the coach did to so enrage the fans? Genuinely curious, I was at a crowded bar and had to leave with 7min remaining because I had a volleyball league to play in.

For starters, I like Shaka and am glad he’s in the league. He obviously can coach at a high level.

I think fans see the way he jumps around and acts like a player as somewhat unprofessional. At one point, he was reprimanded by the refs for talking to Trey Alexander when we were inbounding the ball in front of the MU bench. His demonstrative reaction to the game ending while facing the fans was obviously a middle finger - don’t think it could be interpreted any other way. If he reacted like that in front of his bench of with his staff, it’s different. I was on that side of the arena and thought “man, what a jackass”. I imagine if you’re a Marquette fan, you view it differently. Never seen a coach act like that before in 20 years of attending games.

Maybe it's just me but that sounds more like stuffy Gen X and Boomer reactions about expectations of professionalism when forgetting how guys like Al McGuire, or Jerry Tark, let alone Bobby knight acted.

As far as obviously a middle finger, there's an iconic photo of Al McGuire jumping on the scorers table and saluting the Wisconsin crowd in the 70s, that's deserving of "man what a jackass", Buzz Williams waltzing to Country Roads on the West Virginia logo after winning there in 2012 is "man what a jackass" worthy, a competitor jumping while pumping his fist after/during a hard fought win, turning around, then immediately going into the handshake line? That's being sensitive. Think about how many players (including your BJs) flex and stair down fans/students after a big dunk. I mean the only difference is we expect coaches to be these stuffy angry guys forgetting that they are actually competitors as well.

I didn’t realize MU’s history of coaching jack-assery

I do think it’s okay to expect more from coaches than players, but in a moment of heated competition, that can be hard to contain.

Ever since Eddie Hickey set the precedent. Wonder where he learned it ;)

Both games last night were great for showcasing the league. High level hoops and lots of eye balls nationally commenting on them positively.

speaking of coaches- how about Neptune and Miller seemingly going at it late in that game last night?

With Villanova up 2, around the under 4...

Kunkel was whistled for a borderline travel in a critical late possession as he was about to put in a layup. Sean Miller was ripped, and was barking and getting on the refs...

Justin Moore soon after drilled a 3, putting VU up 5... so a 5 point swing... off camera as we saw Moore head back on defense, Miller started screaming that Neptune eas out of his coach's box, and seemed to walk over to meet him on the sideline at halfcourt... the ref was apparently between them. Neptune didnt seem to open his mouth, even when soon after the refs called Dixon on a make-up non-travel.

TL:DR
Miller was pissed about a late travel call, and flipped out. Neptune didn't open his mouth and seemed to not know what Miller was screaming about.
