If Creighton can leave the MVC with little or no notice and no fee, does that mean they keep their NCAA unit payouts?

If that's the case, then I would not, as the MVC, allow them to play in the conference tourney to guarantee they don't keep an MVC team out of the autobid (and corresponding NCAA unit(s)).

Credits belong to the conference not the school, so no, Creighton will not be able to leave and take their credits with them.

Hey Fish, several of your posts seem to be trying to argue against CU joining the C7 just to keep us in the Valley... Seems counterproductive for a Bradley Fan on a message board like this, kinda makes you look like a bitter ex-girlfriend :D

No, if CU gets the offer they should go. It's not a slam dunk that it'll work out for you guys, though best of luck if you do. If I'm bitter about anything it's that we turned Sweet 16 into mediocrity and aren't at all in this discussion-- nobody's fault but Bradley's (at least things are starting to look up these days). Also, more sentimentally, I'll miss the Jays at Arch Madness and all that.

The Valley will survive loss of CU, and remain a decent league for midmajordom. Might even allow a school like Bradley to replicate Butler model, especially if WSU ends up in MWC or the like, as that'd leave BU as the best funded and supported program in the conference. What I'm more nervousish about is who the MVC replaces CU with. If it's the XDSUs or other football focused programs, means Bradley will end up nomadding it around.

I also happen to think CU could end up feeling like SLU in the A10 a bit. Being out on a geographic island isn't all it's cracked up to be, and is already perceived as a problem in the MVC for some CU fans-- and the geography is much much better for CU in the MVC than it would be in the C7+ conference. Obviously the C7+ is a different type and caliber of competition, so maybe it'll be great. I always think a more natural solution are a pair of basketball-only mostly private conferences (or one mega-conference with two divisions), one that's midwestern and one that's eastern. There are just enough programs for two C7+ type conferences of equal strength that I think would be fantastic for all involved. But, way too many moving pieces for that to come together, at least this time around.

I just can't see how all of this is settled by July 1 when conferences need to be notified of teams departing. I'll lay even money on 2014.

Again, according to Feinstein:

Now it appears that the Catholic 7 may launch as early as next season as a two-division, 12-team league with a TV contract that will probably be comparable to what the former Big East schools would have made if they had accepted ESPN’s offer.

In the next few months, the league will formally decide what schools it will invite to join, no doubt after first learning which ones will accept their invitation. It must also resolve two issues with its former conference: who gets to keep the Big East name and who might play their conference tournament at Madison Square Garden. The smart money is on the remaining Big East teams hanging on for dear life to the conference name and MSG preferring the new league, which will have a number of glamour teams, to be its March tenant going forward.
