Big East meeting at Final 4

Some good info from the Omaha paper. Sounds like the meeting should answer some of the many questions that we all have about the new league.

Fox has first-tier rights to all of the athletic competitions within the conference, but also has the ability to sell those rights to other broadcasting entities.

“It's kind of like in the Valley — ESPN owns our TV rights, but it chooses to sell the championship game of our tournament to CBS,” Rasmussen said. “I would be shocked if you don't see Big East games on ESPN and some of the other cable entities.

Also, this is great from a fan perspective of getting games on TV:

Rasmussen said he also expects the men's basketball schedule to stretch over the course of the week instead of having set days of competition. In the Valley, schools generally played league games on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with some contests held on Tuesdays and Sundays to accommodate television.

“I think we're going to see it across the board in the new league,” Rasmussen said. “You can't have the number of exposures that Fox needs to have and just play a couple times a week. I think you'll see games pretty much every day of the week.

Sounds like everything is happening according to plan. I think the earliest rumors out of providence said there would be some sort of announcement with the Fox roll out and then around the final four. I'm sure this will answer some questions and provide more open ended answers to the questions that arn't completely answered.

Do any conferences have media packages where their partner cannot sell the games to other outlets?

Yes, the Mountain West games will be on CBS sports, NBC sports and ESPN next year.

Story on st louis radio is that SLU AD and Jim Crews are in Atlanta finalizing the coaching deal. Why in Atlanta? I know the BE head are meeting in Atlanta... is this a coincidence? Are all of the NCAA AD's and HCs in Atlanta for the final four? Maybe i'm reading to much into this. Can anyone give me a good reason why the SLU AD and HC are finalizing a deal in the same city the BE Heads of state are sitting? :?:

I believe almost every D1 coach is in Atlanta this weekend. I suspect a good number of ADs are as well.

You are correct admin pretty much every D1 coach is there, not sure about all the ADs but I would imagine so. They have meetings for their coaching organization I believe (NABC?). As well it is the best spot for the coaches to network (for future jobs, assistants, etc.), recruit metro ATL (I know we always have 2-3 players out of ATL), and also fill scheduling holes by talking with other schools. So its not unusual. I know that the Big East (not calling it NBE anymore) has a meeting, not sure about other conferences.

OK that makes a lot more sense. Just seemed odd that they would be finalizing a deal in Atlanta as opposed to St. Louis. guess nothing to see here.... :?
