The Basketball Seven are thought to be seeking a 12-year deal. The amount that the schools will receive is still under negotiation, but it's believed to be in the neighborhood of $3 million per school. The league is still expected to grow to 12 teams, although the possibility has been discussed that the league could start at 10 schools and grow into a 12-team league.

The heavy favorites to join the seven are Butler and Xavier. Creighton and Dayton are also considered strong candidates. Saint Louis has been discussed for the final spot. Sources say that talk about VCU for that spot has intensified the past few weeks, although it's not clear how strongly VCU is being considered.

(note: I know it was briefly mentioned in another thread, but I think it deserves its own thread and discussion, especially now that VCU appears to be in the discussion again).

I think that is probably wrong. The C7 presidents are meeting in Washington Saturday. I'd imagine given what we know now that they will be inviting the initial 3.

I was surprised that he said is VCU under serious consideration. We need to get some Rams fans on here.

The question keeps coming back to how many schools do the C7 want in their new league. If it's 10, things start to get political. If it is 12 or more there is room for everyone. I think VCU and Gonzaga may have something to say about this before it is all said and done though.

How come this article says $3m per year per school? That's quite a difference from the $5m reported earlier.

$500 million divided by 12 years is $41.7 million per year, and that divided by 12 is $3.475 million... therefore, the article suggests the Networks are telling the Jebbies:
"Put the keg tap down for a secod and pick your 5 teams already, SHEESH!"
:D

Which announcement comes first? TV deal or who are the other teams joining the league? Maybe C7 is talking to TV networks to see which additions would be more profitable?
