Timetable?

Has anybody heard when this will all start?

I read yesterday that the Big East does not even have a TV contract for next season. If that is the case, we may see movement pretty quickly.

Would that sudden of a start be a barrier for A10 teams?

Rumors that a new league could start play as early as next year if they can sort out all of the legal mumbo-jumbo with the Big East.

Next year would be awesome but probably 2014 is more likely.

I think the faster the Big East Football league falls apart and it's falling apart pretty fast, the chances of a 2013 start increases.

I don't see DePaul or anyone leaving without knowing who is getting the exit fees and NCAA units accumulated over the last 6 years. For that reason I don't think a new league starts real soon.

Per Katz, likely 2014:
1. The presidents and athletic directors of the seven Catholic Big East schools (Georgetown, Villanova, Seton Hall, St. John's, Providence, Marquette, DePaul) will meet in early January to start extracting the schools, according to a source. The plan for the seven would be to get out for next season, but that's unlikely. A more realistic scenario is to cut out on July 1, 2014, a year before the 27-month exit of July 1, 2015. The lack of a television deal for the 2013-14 men's basketball season is a major concern for the seven. The seven are expected to come together after the holidays to pick a legislative team to orchestrate an exit.

Sounds like we should start to get some real answers after this meeting. I have to admit, the waiting is awful tough...

2014 seems acceptable. I still think the teams leaving for the new conference will want to get their share of exit fees from all those who left previously.
