I don't see the advantage personally. Let's get our group of schools together asap and go. Your thoughts?

The advantage is in keeping good relations with Notre Dame in case the ACC implodes. Provide them safe harbor for a year and you may end up reeling them in for keeps if everything breaks right.

This will allow for the flexibility of a ten team conference while deciding who joins Xavier and Butler. Also, if there is an implosion of the ACC, Notre Dame may be looking for an all-sports home while keeping football independent.

I guess I hand't fully considered the possibility that the ACC might not exist in it's current form much longer.

Well, my 1st instinct is to tell them to go pound salt. However, it behooves the Big East to maintain good relations.
I don't know if ND will be able to get away w/ football independence in the future, but it the ACC crumples....
Aside fr/ the football nonsense, ND was a high performing member of the Big East for 18 years.
I'm just curious why Creighton wouldn't be joining right away w/ no exit fee as a hinderence.

ESPN changed their report and it now says they will likely be joining in 2013.

I am okay with it for the reasons stated. I will even take it a step further. I would welcome UCONN knowing they may leave. However, UCONN and only UCONN. No Cincy and no other football school. UCONN fans pack MSG. They are a great program and would help the new league get out of the gate strong. They would have to park their football in the MAC and would likely not go this route. Take them and ND with the knowledge that they may leave. Back fill with some of the schools that have been discussed.

However, it is not something I wish for, but I would be fine with it. Anyway, it is looking like all the details have been worked out. We just don't know them yet

If the Irish could get out of the 'old' Big East, why wouldn't they go ACC right away?

ND doesn't know when or if NC leaves or others. Everything hinges on the legal battle between the ACC and Maryland over exit fees. If the courts rule in MD's favor a big exodus may happen.
