It comes from a source at Providence. It's all just rumors until something is official, but I believe this one.

A Providence guy went to the Xavier board and said pretty much the same thing. I bet it's from the same source (who apparently has a big mouth) as all these leaks seem to be coming from Providence. This is what he posted:

1. The C7 schools would like the "Big East" name, but not unless they can get it at a reasonable cost.

2. VCU is NOT, I repeat NOT getting an invite so please no more posts about the possibility.

3. Butler and Xavier have already agreed to join the conference as well as Dayton and St Louis. AD's want 10 teams, FOX wants 12 and it will probably be 12.

4.High interest for a 2013 start to the new conference even if it means just a league with the C7 alone for 1 year.

Yeah, SLU and Dayton over Creighton is a joke IMO but I am biased.

3. The Big East's departing seven Catholic, non-FBS schools are working on an exit plan, a television deal (sources continue to say Fox has an inside track) and ultimately a commissioner. The current commish who would be a fit is the West Coast Conference's Jamie Zaninovich. He has managed a private-school conference well of late and worked at Princeton, so he is not foreign to the Northeast. He had to deal with expansion in adding BYU and, next season, Pacific. Zaninovich already has contacts in the television industry and credibility within the NCAA tournament selection committee as a member. The committee might need to be lobbied to ensure an automatic berth once the league is formed.

My favorite 5 additions would be Butler, Xavier, Gonzaga, Creighton and VCU. That would be a great Bball league. If Gonzaga doesn't work, then add either Dayton or Saint Louis.
