Latest from Jersey Guy:

Big East, Catholic 7 continue “exit” talks
The Big East is now in Phase II of its plans for the immediate future. With the television deal with ESPN for basketball and football almost official (it still has to be approved by the Big East Presidents) Big East commissioner Mike Aresco is now focusing on the break up with the Catholic 7 group of schools (Seton Hall, Georgetown, Marquette, Villanova, Providence, St. John’s, and DePaul) who are leaving the conference.
No official date has been announced, but July of 2014 still seems the most reasonable departure date for not only the Catholic 7, but for Notre Dame, Louisville and Rutgers, who also have announced their departure for the ACC and the Big Ten.
Big East commissioner Mike Aresco feels the two sides are close to having an initial arrangement–which will mean the departure date. Some factions among the Catholic 7 are still lobbying for a departure by this July, but that still seems unlikely, given the amount of money which the Catholic 7 would either give up or have to pay out for an early exit, as well as the sheer logistics of forming a conference and getting it up to speed in a few months.
The two sides are holding meetings on a regular basis and the word used among Big East officials is “close, very close” to having some sort of announcement.
Aresco wants to move forward with his new look league, presumably with the Big East name. It will be a trimmed down, more cohesive group. consisting of 10 teams in football for next season and either 11 or 12 teams in football and basketball by the start of the 2014 season.
The Catholic 7 plan will be to announce a departure date and then immediately add at least three teams to the conference–with Xavier, Butler and either Richmond, Dayton, Saint Louis or Creighton as the 10th team, with the eventual possibility that five of the six eventually being part of the group.
The other issue now seriously being discussed is the matter of money. With NCAA basketball units, departure fees and other money in a general reserve fund, the Big East will have more than $60 million available for distribution to its members.
How and when this is done is now being discussed on a regular basis, with still no clear-cut plan being approved.

Well... it looks like he cut and pasted from some of his past blogs and added a blurb about the NCAA units (the obvious) ; I was going to post some article in the st. louis post earlier by some hack there but as it was just a regurgitation of the Washington Post argument. I really don't think these journalists have came up with any new facts in about a month.

I will say i am impressed at the C7's ability to block out the press... that alone is amazing

Absolutely agree. I love that these guys have to just keep throwing up the same blog posts and articles over and over because there are no careless leaks and unnamed sources being floated around. It's a nice change of pace.

I appreciate people posting anything related to the c7 formation, but what is this guy saying that anyone doesn't know? Funny how he's just repeating himself at this point.

This guy was the first one to break a lot of the early news...so he has a little more credibility than the other chumps.

Agree though that this is mostly recycled and I don't think anyone has a real idea of what teams are coming in or any other real information.

C-7 presidents and ad's all signed confidentiality agreements. Good probability that schools board of trustees do not have info. Potential schools-sign same documents. All leaks are just speculation. Especially now the providence sources. All looks though.

The one downfall (or asset depending on your point of view) of all private schools is you cannot utilize a freedom of information law to request documents.

I guess we will just have to wait and speculate.

It is impressive their secrecy- I think someone posted on here a long time ago about the public v. private school thing for the freedom of information act requirements. I kinda chalked it up as an interesting fact. Maybe we are way underestimating the c7's love of privacy (this would hurt VCU's chances obviously)?

If you can keep your business private, you do. I think it's a big deal to these schools and if inviting a public school opens the whole league up to FOIA, then that public school better really be worth it. Considering that there's only one being mentioned for inclusion, I just don't see the fit. It might be different if a couple or three publics were on the consideration list.

Journal-Sentinel in Milwaukee indicated that the gag order was from the law firm they hired, not a decision between by the schools.
