How are they so far? I feel like they have been totally overlooked. All of the conversation is about the ranked teams or the cellar dwellers.

Solid but unproven is the best way to put it I'd say. No super impressive wins and no terrible losses (though Stanford certainly wasn't good). With the exception of that 1 game, they won the games they're supposed to (some convincingly, some less so) and lost on the road to a pair of top 10 rpi teams (@Creighton, and vs Florida in what was officially a neutral court but really a true road game in Orlando).

We'll learn more about them on this upcoming 3 game road trip (@Marquette, @Providence, @Villanova). Assuming a loss at the ski lodge, 2-1 would be a pretty good trip, 1-2 keeps them breathing, 0-3 and they're looking like an NIT team.

Although I guess it depends who you ask. As was pointed out earlier today on the SHU boards, KenPom's model thinks Seton Hall is a terrible team that about to get buried by losing 6 of its next 7 games with the only win coming home to St. John's.

Honestly IMHO, if they eliminated 3-4 turnovers a game, as well as hit 3-4 more of their FT's a game, they're easily a top 25 team.

Individually, they might be underdogs in 6 of 7 games, but the expected win total over the next 7 games is between 2 and 3 wins, with a lean to 3 wins. Seton Hall is ranked #49, but road games in the Big East can suck.

Edit: By the way, for those that don't know it, the way to figure out expected wins on Kenpom for any span of games is to take the win probabilities in decimal form (e.g. 46% is 0.46) and then add them all up. In this 7-game stretch, the expected win total is 2.69 wins.

I can see Seton Hall being a team that sweeps Xavier. Very athletic and a great big man in Delgado can be a problem. Probably the second worse matchup in the conference for Xavier behind Creighton. So they could pick up 2 good wins against Xavier

Bubble team. Their season could go either way.

Buy or sell? I'm buying. I think their experience will pay off in close games.

a lot of Seton Hall will be this week. If they go 0-2, this 7 game stretch goes from 2.69 projected wins down to only 1.91 projected wins.

Also, if they go 0-2, it really puts them behind the 8 ball for the season. They would have after this week only 5.95 projected wins left by KP, and only 5.79 by Sagarin predictor.

Also with regards to their experience it's not like they have way more than the rest of the league. Looked in KP, and they have 5th most. And it's not like they are way ahead of the next 3 teams. 8 of the 10 teams in the league are between 1.61 and 1.98.

game tomorrow with Seton Hall and Marquette is just huge....
Seton Hall- after tomorrow- have 6.41 projected wins. So win tomorrow= 9.41 projected wins. loss tomorrow=8.41 projected wins.
Marquette- after tomorrow- have 7.44 projected wins. So win tomorrow=9.44 projected wins. loss tomorrow=8.44 projected wins.

winner, especially if it's Seton Hall in great shape(have to remember that Marquette may really need 10 conference wins so that's why I say that) loser will be behind the 8 ball. Also for Marquette a loss, and Seton Hall has tiebreaker sweep.

Seton Hall has a lot of talent and solid athleticism. When contrasting the talent to their record, one can't help but feel like they are underperfoming a bit. I think they lack a true "system." It strikes me that Seton Hall would be a lot more consistent if they had a reliable, regular system like so many of the other top teams in conference. I'm also not a big believer in Willard.

I like Seton Halls team but if they had a knock down shooter as a PG they would take the next step to joining Butler, Xavier, Creighton and Nova in the top tier of the conference. Powell can fill the role of the shooter but he is not a PG. Rowsey from Marquette is all they need. Right now teams can clog the lane on Carrington and Rodrigues.

Seton Hall also gets after it on the glass. I think they are going to outplay their projections and pick a few of the top 4 teams off this year.
