Fox Sports 1 Update

so saw Undisputed got 82k on Tuesday. But what was really interesting- Cowherd got 120k....

looking at the numbers thru 6 days....
First take averaging 348k per show
Undisputed averaging 94.2k per show

so you say it's a failure....

but lets look at 2 other things....
First Take last year averaged 487.3k per show. So this year is down by about 140k or 29%.
But and this is even more important is Cowherd. HIs 1st 6 shows last year drew an average of 55.7k viewers. This year, that number is up to 93.8k viewers. 38.1k increase- or a 68.5% increase.

It's going to be interesting if Undisputed can improve some- and VERY interesting if Cowherd can maintain this increase.

1 thing that is really bad for FS1 is Fox Sports Live....

look at last night:
FSL from 11-1130 got 33k viewers, 12k 18-49's
a repeat of undisputed on same network from 1-3(AM) got 35k, with 21k 18-49's

That's just brutal.
On Tuesday- so you can take out the NFL impact which is fair...
FSL got 30k viewers, with 12k from 18-49's
undisputed replay (from 1209-2am) got 31k viewers, with 19k from 18-49's

thought it was interesting a point someone made. It's tougher on Undisputed getting a better rating than First Take because the show is 150 minutes instead of 120 minutes. The rating we see is the average of the entire period. Well it's easier to get a better number for 120 minutes vs 150 minutes for that type of show.

Very obnoxious!! I was so intent on being an avid FS1 watcher. I have never on line dated. But, now I know how people feel when they are mislead, going on their first dates.

How are those clowns still on? Is FOX still looking at some wrongly selected focus groups or something?

I know I was turned off to Dan and Jay the very first night. They were promoting a Colts/Giants game the next day and Jay just screams out NFL Fox Sunday Colts Giants Watch it. Watch it. With a 5 second pause between the NFL, Fox, Sunday, Colts, Giants, and both Watch its. The next night, they calmed down some- but then I think when the ratings came in and they were dismal, they reverted back.

What's so amazing to me, you now have Jamie Horowitz running things with his embrace debates, and you have these 2 clowns totally the opposite.

What is funny as well, the show that would be absolutely PERFECT for FS1 was the show that ESPN put out when FS1 came around- Olbermann.

Jay & Dan were something of celebrities for Canada's main sports network. I am sure FOX thought they were getting a steal bringing them over. I don't know if SportsCenter can be beat, but I know Jay & Dan are not the answer.

FSL with Jay and Dan got 136k on Friday night. Helps have a solid live event to lead into late night programming.

I get what you're saying, but FSL should never be remotely close ratings wise to any repeat of a morning show. The fact that it was 1k behind last Tuesday, with 7k fewer 18-49's- just should never happen. Tuesday's FSL was from 11:11-11:39 and Unsdisputed replay was 1209-2am.

Also, even worse, the lead in for it was a replay of Speak for Yourself from 10:11-11:11. That drew 62k with 22k from 18-49.

So Speak for Yourself got 62 k 22k 18-49
Fox Sports Live got 30k 12 k 18-49
NFL Films thing from 1139-1209 got 49k 27k 18-49
Undisputed got 31k 19k 18-49

so FSL lost half the viewership from a talk show before it.

For months, ESPN institutionally has opted not to have its executives respond to FS1 outside of an occasional quote. But last week I received an email from ESPN PR saying management was ready to talk about FS1. And talk they did.

“I think their strategy here has been—and frankly this part has worked—they are only getting headlines when they bash ESPN,” said Burke Magnus, ESPN’s executive vice president for programming and scheduling and one of the top execs in the company. “It is almost never for the quality of what they do. That strategy is fine but at some point there has to be substance behind it. Otherwise, it’s just noise.”

Magnus said he does not believe FS1’s lineup of opinion-based talkers from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET will be a successful recipe to surpass ESPN.

“I think they have made a big mistake in abandoning journalism and abandoning news and information completely for all debate. It is never going to be one thing for anyone. It’s not one thing for us and never has been about one thing. We have a variety of opinion shows—or call them debate shows—that have been highly successful for us in a long time as part of an array of offerings including SportsCenter, live events and storytelling like E:60 and 30 for 30. It’s that combination that has been successful. They may have a hit here or there with a particular show but it really needs to be more diverse than that in my opinion.”
