If the Power 5 becomes the Power 4 there is a very real chance some of traditional basketball powerhouses could be left in the wind.

The only P5 schools that might be left in the wind are Big 12 schools who do not receive future invitations from the Big 10, ACC, Pac 12, and SEC. If the Power 5 becomes the Power 4, it will be initiated by the Big 10, ACC, Pac 12, and SEC raiding the most desirable Big 12 schools.

Not really. The Bylaws of Big 10, ACC, Pac 12, and SEC do not permit a member school to be voted out, and no school in these four conferences will decide to leave all that football money behind in order to join the Big East.

Yeah, the only "basketball" school that could come available would be Kansas. And that is extremely remote as their basketball will probably get them in one of the p4 conferences.

Maybe. Conference realignment is an unpredictable thing. Until the ACC network was announced everyone presumed the ACC would lose defectors to the SEC and Big 10. The point is to be patient and wait for the perfect fit. As you have pointed out, you can't kick someone out once they are in.

I don't think you'll ever see a conference school voted out. What there is a chance of, however small, would be the P5 completely disbanding themselves and reorganizing into 4 superconferences, and probably realigning themselves into a new division for football. That is when a few school might get loose...but even in that case, there might be enough schools left over to make a decent conference with football. That's part of the reason I think bringing back an FCS 'Big East' football conference might not be a bad idea, so there is something there in case the 'big 64' or whatever number completely break away from the FBS.

Now you've jumped completely out of your own universe of deception. As someone who dated a girl from KU and went to Lawrence innumerable times in the 90s (during the Danny Manning NC years no less) I can testify that Gary Mason's milquetoast success back them was more of a draw to Memorial stadium than the basketball team. Same goes for Lexington and the rest of that Deliverance-esque state. Football rules in EVERY SINGLE stinking state that had football FIRST. In Kansas it doesn't matter that their last conference championship was in 1908 in the Missouri Valley Conference! They are like Cubs fans. They don't give a f--- how many NCs in basketball they win. They worshiped Mangino and prayed for that sloth Weiss to be worth the billions they payed him.

FOOTBALL RULES "those" states/schools/kingdoms/fiefdoms... etc. etc.

Getting back to UCONN. Football fandom for most of them in the past 20 years has been like drinking castor oil. Nothing like Kansas or Kentucky or even North Carolina. No way no how. BUT they got the taste now, and they want more. They are newbies but once they get the football fix it's over. Over and over. The Big East just shut them all up on the hardcourt.

the only reason Kansas would come available is if Big 12 got blown apart and they got left behind. No way was I saying that they would willingly leave the Big 12 and move to the Big East.

It seems most have Kansas pegged for the Big Ten if the Big XII falls apart. I think teams that will be left over are the Iowa State, Kansas State and Baylors.....

I wonder what those Syracuse people will say when UConn is back in the same conference with them...hell, by that point nearly half of the ACC will be former BigEast. Might as well have been a 10 year merger...

Beginning to believe this was all a ploy for attention by the Big 12. It will probably end with nothing next month. Don't want to have to share that football money any wider than they have to...

"McMurphy said he believes the power-five schools will ultimately break from the others, and play football in their own division."

The break may come / will come for FOOTBALL, not all sports.

And how about those subsidies! Truly unsustainable.
