Andy Katz said today on ESPN that he thinks Marquette gets into the tournament if they win 3 and lose in the final. Personally, I think he's high. I would say he's trying to drum up some extra drama but no reason for him to do so since the BET isn't on ESPN.

That's not how it works. The pods aren't locked to regions. You could have a team going from Spokane to Philly possibly. or Denver to Philly. Or Des Moines to Philly. Or Brooklyn to Philly.

Didn't know I was just looking at ESPN bracketology and thought the locations he had was where those pods would play. So Launardi has the 2 seed in the south playing in St. Louis, does that mean it's just a guess by him that the St. Louis location will be for that pod?

exactly. They changed that roughly 10 years ago.

Great example is UNC. They'll be playing in the Raleigh sub regional as a top 1-2 seed- regardless of what regional they wind up playing in.

You look at CBSSports and ESPN they have different pods in different places depending on who they think gets preferential seeds and close to home. Wish they were set so I could have an idea which place to be ready to buy tickets from on selection Sunday.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm assuming they'd give Xavier the benefit of St. Louis then if they are a two seed because it's the closest location?

Exactly. Like last year, Xavier would have gotten the Columbus site for instance....

the subregional pods have no correlation to the regional placement

you can have a situation where there the 1 seed in the east and the 1 seed in the west both play in Brooklyn. This has been the format for a long time now. In 2006 UConn was the 1 seed in the east (philly pod) and Nova was the 1 seed in the Midwest (also placed in the Philly pod).

The other thing you know is that the 4 seeds get last pick for pod placement and those are the guys who get sent to the remote locations like Spokane and Tampa or wherever. So the 4's often times get lumped in together.

If you are worried about location for getting tickets, I would pull the trigger now if I were in your spot. If you end up going somewhere else, you will have no problem getting rid of the tickets (and you might end up with a little extra coin as well.)
