"Louisville has the money to pry [your coach here] from [your school here]."
Doesn't apply to UCLA, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, UNC and Duke, maybe a couple of others like a guy in his hometown like Cooley, or at his alma mater like Mullin (or Mack, etc).
Also, forgot where I most recently read this (not here I don't think), but the biggest and most common strawman statement is "Today's Big East isn't as strong as the Old Big East..." Uhhh, no shit. And that's another statement that can be applied to every other current and former conference. "Today's ACC isn't as strong as the Old Big East..." See?

The thing is, with jobs like Louisville, Indiana, Ohio St, etc.- those are the only ones that a guy like Mack would leave a great situation for. Until he's asked, you just don't know what he's going to say. Louisville does have a lot of plusses for him. You can't just blanket say that he's going to stay, because in the coaching profession, that's just not realistic.
Except you fail to realize that X is a much better job than Wichita. X is in a power conference with a great TV deal and more money than any conference outside the FB5. It's night and day stever, but you will never recognize that.
And Louisville IS an upgrade over Xavier. Louisville with their arena basically just prints money. If Louisville comes to Mack and offers him over double what he makes with X, It's not going to be an easy decision. And that would be realistically what could happen. Smart when he went to Texas got a 3 mil per year deal. I could easily see Louisville offering Mack 4 million. I know it sucks, but Xavier isn't a destination job. Louisville is a destination job.
I know Big East fans would hope that there's no chance he leaves, but in the coaching profession, and with a top 10 job possibly open, I think that's just a bit naïve. Of course there's a chance he goes. There's probably less than 10 jobs that could pry Mack away from X. This is one of them.

Louisville wouldn't do what you're saying- settle for Marshall because it's a little bit cheaper. Louisville would go for their guy, period. If that guy is Mack, that's who they're going after. Money won't be a deciding factor.

Since when did you become an expert on all thing Louisville that you can say for certain what they will or wont do? You are already acting like Pitino is gone and that Mack is their guy they want.

I really think if Pitino was coming back next year, that we would have heard it already. I really do.
And I'm not saying for sure that Mack would be their guy, but he would definitely be on their short list. It's what happens when you have a national coach of the year candidate.
I just think it's pretty idiotic to just blanket dismiss any possibility that Mack could leave. There's been far more shocking departures.

WSU's two best players, and the guys that lead them on their historic runs the last few years, graduate this spring. The remaining guys are good enough to win the MVC, but are nowhere near the caliber of the two graduating guards. WSU will drop.
The other job to which Marshall was rumored, Indiana, suddenly looks like it won't have an opening at the end of this season after all.
If ever there was a time for Marshall to leave, this would be it.
No offense to Mack, but in comparing the resumes between Mack and Marshall, Marshall has accomplished more despite being in a lesser conference the last 3 years.
If I'm the AD at Louisville I offer Pitino money to Marshall and hope the Koch brothers don't match it. I hate Marshall and put up with his shit for a long time when we were in the MVC, but the dude can coach and recruit.
(Mack seems to show up on these lists every single season. I don't know if he has an agent doing that or what, but X really needs to step up and pay the guy market rate.)
