Question for Xavier fans

Postby ChestRockwell85 » Wed Feb 24, 2016 2:31 pm

I realize some of you are probably alumni living hundreds of miles away from campus now, or are just fans from all over the country, but to those who might still live in the area or are students or are just familiar with the situation, is there buzz on campus today about the game tonight? I mean I know everybody is aware of what is going on, but you know what I mean, is that feeling of excitement and anticipation obvious?

I miss that.

I can't speak for myself as I now live outside Milwaukee, but my friends still living in the area seem to be pretty hyped for the game. I think they have the sense that this is one of the biggest, if not biggest, games during the regular season for Xavier. I'm hoping the atmosphere tonight translates.

Yes, this feels very similar to the days leading up to the Crosstown Shootout. Although I'm not on campus anymore I do still live a few miles from campus. I know everyone is talking about this game on social media, local news, etc. I've had people I work with ask me about the game tonight, and they haven't mentioned a word about college basketball all year to me.

I live 3 miles from campus.

I'll put it this way, I left work this morning at 7 AM, and there were already students lining up outside of Cintas. By noon the line extended around the arena. Media all over the scene. Yeah, there is a palpable buzz for sure.

I live about 25 miles north and while heading to campus I stopped by a few stores in the tricounty area just off I-275, There are X fans with their attire and giving the X sign. So yes, there is a buzz. This is great not only for the school but for the league. Fox must be loving this.

I cannot remember this much hype for a Xavier game ever. Sure the fanbase has gotten more pumped for NCAA games. But everyone is excited about this game, not just X fans. At least from what I am seeing.

GET HYPED

It's huge! Mack is being interviewed by all the TV and radio stations. I'm a season ticket holder and usually go to the games with my wife, and even several UC friends have contacted me and asked to go. Hope the X-men put on a good show!

The game is so big it made the Cincinnati Business Courier. If that does not spell buzz, I do not know what does.

I'm in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, so I can't exactly say I've witnessed anything in particular, but when Paul Daugherty literally writes the following, you know something big is brewing in the Queen City:

Bearcats fans, soften your deep hatred for all things X. Let town-trump-all and do what the charitable among you say you do already: Root for Xavier in any game the Musketeers aren’t playing UC.

I suspect Bill Murray is flying in for this one. Cincinnati sports celebrities will certainly be in the house, as they typically come in for big games.

Seriously, as well as the Cintas Center already shows on television, it will be special tonight with the standing room only environment.

Two classy teams going at it. Make it a great game. And go X!

I'm just in high school and everybody who knows me thinks Xavier right away but I've never had more "big game tonight" or just people talking about the game with me. Today it felt like every class a teacher(some who I wouldn't expect in a million years to know what was going on) and students were saying something to me about the game. Obviously not on campus but definitely some buzz around the city for the game.
