Big East Class Sizes...

Postby billyjack » Thu Feb 18, 2016 12:13 pm

The Big East rosters have these class sizes:
This includes players who have logged 50+ minutes during the full 2016 season:

Team (number of players at 50+ minutes). SR-JR-SOPH-FR.
Butler (10). 4-2-3-1.
Creighton (11). 2-4-2-3.
DePaul (11). 3-5-1-2.
Georgetown (11). 2-1-5-3.
Marquette (10). 0-3-2-5.
Providence (9). 0-2-4-3.
St John's (9). 3-1-1-4.
Seton Hall (10). 2-0-7-1.
Villanova (9). 2-3-1-3.
Xavier (11). 2-2-4-3.

Just wanted to toss this information out there.
I didn't get a chance to double check it yet.

Thanks. Maybe you could make a chart of how many players in the top 6 rotation each team will lose to either graduation or the NBA draft.

That would be helpful too. I'm not going to have time this afternoon to put it together though, but everyone is welcome to do this.

just looking overall....
20 sr
23 jr
30 so
28 fr

pretty balanced.

I would say 50 minutes is a pretty low threshold. that's like in 25 games(which is where all teams are now 2 minutes per game. It'd be interesting to see maybe more like 250 minutes- or 10 minutes per game.

I take a guy from Nova. Donte DiVincenzo. He's played in 70 minutes this season. With exactly 4 since Thanksgiving weekend. I wouldn't exactly say a guy like that is all that meaningful on a list like this. And there's guys like that everywhere.

If the data is available, you could do a weighted average by playing time.

Another field for graduate transfers would be interesting too.

Yeah, i was trying to weed out walk-ons in particular, so i cut it at 50 mintes.

DiVincenzo on Villanova will be an important piece in the future (so i think i kept him?), whereas Woodring on PC is a walk-on so I wanted to weed out Woodring. There were just a few players near that 50 minute cut line. Seemed to be guys at around 25 minutes or 75 minutes with few in between.

But feel free to break it down in different ways.

There are 4 teams with 3 or fewer upperclassmen... PC, Marquette, Georgetown, and Seton Hall. I think at least 3 of those have been our most erratic Jekyll and Hyde teams, even within games... the PC vs GU last Saturday for example. DePaul's 2 wins have come against 2 of these teams. GU has great wins and crazy losses. Seton Hall has recently been more steady.

Compare this to Butler, where they're kinda a "wysiwyg" type team. No crazy losses. No shocking wins.

I'm not sure about all of this and what it means (i think it accounts for something though), but I wanted to at least toss this out for discussion.

Yes got hurt in preseason but has since come back to practice. The gen consensus is that Jay W has his 8 man rotation set, so why not give DD a year to develop. Kid has crazy athleticism (for a white guy nonetheless). 40+" vertical. Expecting big things from him next year with Arch leaving and no other guards coming in.
