Why are online debates always all or nothing? Are NCAA tournament milestones important? Yes. Are regular season milestones important? Yes. AAC has won the national championship in 2 of last 4 years yet you can't find a single person saying they are a better conference than the Big East. Just enjoy both regular and ncaa portions of season!

Nobody is saying that you don't want tournament success. But in the big picture you need regular season accolades as well.
Earl The Pearl Washington is one of those legendary names from big East lore. He never won more than one tournament game in a year during his career. His legend stems from regular season accolades. Under your theory he was worthless. But in the real world, guys like that were huge in the formation of the big east.
In my opinion, the best player in big east history was Donyell Mrashall. His crowning achievement was a win over a 10 seed to make a sweet 16. He never made a big tourney run. According to you, he was worthless.
Let's talk about your favorite conference. The flagship program, Cincy. Their best achievement according to most: 2002. Number 1 ranked team that season. They lost in the second round. People still give them respect for that year. They get more credibility for 2002 than they do for their fluke run to the final four a decade prior. John Chaney, 24 years at Temple, many ranked teams, many good seeds, and john Chaney only won multiple tournament games five times in those two and a half decades, never making a final four. John Chaney is a hall of famer because of his regular season success.
We need regular season credibility as much as we need post season success. We need them both. X
