LSU has fallen off the face of the Earth, Wisconsin stinks and Arizona State is probably an NIT team.

those are ok- but the big reason why Marquette is squarely on the bubble, and will remain there, is the rest of the OOC schedule. 332 OOC SOS. Overall SOS is 100.

Out of curiosity what was Cincinnati's in 2011? If I remember correctly they had an abysmal noncon that they cleaned up and it worked well for their rebuilding project.

320. but like you said, the big difference there is they were 13-0 vs it. And had a non con win vs Xavier(#24 that year) Cincy only presented themselves with the poor OOC schedule with 8 losses total. Marquette we are talking if they only go 9-9 in conference, they would be presenting themselves with 12 losses total and quite possibly with no win as good OOC than what Cincy had with X. Pretty big difference there I would say.

Cincy 16 top 50 games(going 7-9)
Marq this year maybe only 12 top 50 games? the 10 in BE play(if all can remain top 50), then 1 BET game and Iowa. Tough to see Wisconsin top 50 and Arizona St same thing.

Non conference schedule didn't matter at all in the old Big East. PC had one year where 9 out of 10 games in a row were against ranked opponents

Hence the Dumb and Dumber reference. It'd be a wonderful birthday present, but I'm not holding my breath.

yes and no. You had to if you had a schedule like what Marquette had- be pretty much either undefeated with it, or like 1 loss. Or go in the conference and be like 11-7. You can't schedule like what Marquette did this year, go 8-10 in conference, and make the tourney. That never happens.

Folks take Villanova back in 2012-13 season. They were 20-13, 10-8 in conference play with wins over Louisville, Syracuse, UConn, Marquette, and Georgetown. They were 9-4 in OOC play. But their OOC SOS was 106. Overall SOS was #17. If Nova had played Marquette's schedule that year, It's no where near as comfortable as it was- and no lock that they are in.

It is my birthday also but I don't think we are going to get the win as a birthday present.

But if this Big East is potentially 7 bids deep then non con shouldn't matter here either.

conferences don't get bids. Teams do. whoever is in 6th/7th place needs to be a team that had a good OOC schedule and did ok with it.

Also, this is where the old Big East was different. Your 6th/7th place team would still have a 11-7 or 10-8 record. That is impossible in the NBE. In the 6 years the Big East had 15-16 teams and played 18 game schedule- 6th place never finished worse than 11-7 and 7th place never worse than 10-8. Only once did 8th place finish with fewer than 10 wins either.

And PC 2009 10-8 in conference play. Finished tied for 7th. Their OOC schedule they went 8-4 in it with 147 SOS. They missed the tourney.

I think the Selection Committee made it clear that you have to play the Top 25/Top 50 teams and win some. We are very fortunate in the BE that we don't need to go out of the conference for this type of competition. We heard a lot of whining and bitching from dayton last year that there 25 wins against the lower two thirds of the A-10 and buy games should have counted for something. The Committee didn't see it that way, and if they don't win the game @ VCU the last week of the season, they were OUT. Schedule up in the OOC if you can't get the games in Conference!
