How did they lose that game though?
We played very bad defense. We also had 3 plays in the last minute of the game where it was essential that we scored. They resulted in (1) jacked up missed 3 pointer when we needed to run the clock. (2) Offensive foul. (3) Jacked up missed desperation three, with 2 defenders in his face, when another player was open. We also shot very poorly from the stripe.
I will say this, and I don't mean to come across as if MU and Georgetown's losses aren't concerning, but we didn't lose to terrible teams. Radford has progressed every year under Mike Jones, and have won 22 games in the last two seasons. They also have 7(!) seniors. Belmont is always solid, they have 5 upper classmen, and another 4 RS sophomores. All this on a team that went to the NCAA tournament last year and is expected to return this year. We should have won these games, but we were not playing scrubs. All we can do now is hope for improvement moving forward. Best of luck to everyone else.
EDIT: Just as a point of reference, there are 2 RS SR on Belmont who have been on the team, although not always playing, for 3 NCAA tournaments and an NIT.
None of this should be read as an excuse. We dropped the ball, played bad defense, still had chances at the end to put the game away. We failed. This team will get better at late game execution, but we aren't there yet.
2nd EDIT: I was looking at last year's roster, current Belmont team has 6 upper classmen and 4 RS sophomores. No RS SR.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
