I can't remember, does this now cost him a year of eligibility or can he earn it back?

This was a long time ago but I think the same rule still applies. Anthony Perry (St. Anthony's) went through the same thing at Georgetown 97-98 (freshman season). He was able to keep his scholarship and practice but, only had three years of eligibility beginning his sophomore season 98-99.

I also hope it doesn't hurt recruiting also. I guess their future starting backcourt will arrive together (Lovett & Ponds) along with big man Yawke. They have no true point guard this year. Of all the recruits this is the one they needed the most. Somebody is going to have to step up and help Mussini because I have a feeling his milk money is going to get stolen during BEast season.

This year will be a pass for Mullin, with Lovett here I was hoping to match the 2011 team of 13 wins. Now we probably won't win 10. I won't put this on Mullin, he was hired in April and had only a few months to put this team together. The only good thing about this year is the players who return next year will get alot of burn this year.

Next year Lovett (will still have his 4 years here if he doesn't leave early), Ponds, and Yakwe. We're now in Thon's top 6, we're still good with Bashir, and who knows with Rawle.
Long year but will enjoy watching these kids grow.

I've wanted to know about the partial qualifier rule for about 20 years. Every other partially qualifier I can think of was a blue chipper who left before playing a game or left after 1 college season.

I think this may be correct about student athletes status as partial qualifiers. please feel free to update the rules if they have changed in the past few years.

A "partial qualifier" is eligible to practice only with a team at its home facility and receive an athletics scholarship during his or her first year at a Division I school and then has three seasons of competition remaining.

A partial qualifier may earn a fourth year of competition, provided that at the beginning of the fifth academic year following the student-athlete's initial, full-time collegiate enrollment, the student-athlete has received a baccalaureate degree.

Every single year, St. John's has issues like this.

LoVett. Balamou. Thomas. Pelle. Sampson. Sanchez. Garrett. Delarosa. That's just off the top of my head of guys in the last 5 years that have had issues getting ineligible. I think all of them ended up missing time. Yakwe may soon be added to the list.

Most schools don't have consistent issues like this, at least not to the level St. John's does.

Also as we've seen from the NCAA if you give them some bad press like UCF you'll become eligible. Lovett's issue was because of his school in Chicago after he moved there from Cali after his sophomore year. It's harder on international players (Balamou, Delarosa) than US kids. Also Sanchezs was stupid. He played one minute in a game for the Dominican Republic national team. Every kids had different issues, don't lump them all together.
