Cincy is ahead of Memphis really only due to the last 8 years. Before that- Cincy was only like 7 games ahead of Memphis in the FBS era. Cincy isn't a juggernaut in football by any measure.

Also, Memphis does bring the Liberty Bowl with it.

Don't know much about CFB but Cincy made the sugar bowl 5 years ago. Can't imagine Memphis had done the same.

and Memphis could do something similar this year. The gap between Cincy and Memphis is no where near as large as you would think. Add in bigger stadium with a bowl game, geography.

Wasn't the Sugar Bowl the equivalent of 3rd vs 4th place? So Memphis might make the College Football playoff this year?

Cincy made the sugar bowl out of a bcs conference. No comparison to today's conference of Americans.

Best comparison might be Boise State when they've made it.

Sugar Bowl was a runner up bowl.

The thing with Cincy is that really their program is just the last 10 years. That's it.

since 1978(when FBS split from FCS)
Cincy 208-221-3
Memphis 158-260-6
50 more wins and Memphis with 39 more losses. 44.5 game difference

last 10 years
Cincy 87-41(meaning from 1978-2004 they were 121-180-3)
Memphis 44-79(meaning from 1978-2004 they were 114-181-6)
43 more wins and Memphis with 38 more losses. 40.5 game difference

so if Memphis went, it would be that they're looking at things as more than just the last 10 years, but overall.

just a couple more historic basketball schools turned football "wannabee's". Both are remnants of schools blinded by football $, with tunnel vision powered by greed. Should a power conference look to expand - not highly likely - the pickin's are slim. Neither Cincy nor Memphis has sufficient pedigree for football, both would merely be "filler" for a 14 -16 team league.

Why continue such a nonsensical thread? It has little to no bearing here, with no impact on the BE. :?:

No reason to add anyone. Even if we added Duke/UCONN/UK, gtmo would pick Creighton to win the conference every year.

Funny and true. Then he would recommend that Duke join the Big East.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

Har de har har, yuk yuk, you guys... Hilarious. Milksteak & Omahaguy ? /Omaha1 - the new Mork n Mindy, frick & frack, Laurel & Hardy. Tee hee.

When the B1G raids the ACC again, stealing a couple more "traditional" ACC teams, being the top dog in a weak ACC South division will have little appeal for the Dukies. With the north clickians (UNC) on a 4-5 year "death penalty" from the NCAA (unless Roy can get SMU or Miami to take the heat for UNC's 20 year cheating campaign), the thrill will be gone for Duke. There's no fun in playing BC, S'cuse, n Pitt of the ACC Frozen North division. The Dukies will forfeit a bit of cash and accept an offer to join the Big East - likeminded small, private, and basketball 1st schools in a basketball 1st league. Coming to Val Ackerman and NYC within the next 2-3 years, if not sooner.

New Duke head coach Woj-a-Hurley will welcome the opportunity (no Capel, no Dawkins, no black HC at Duke) to charter a new chapter of Duke history in the new BE.

I'm guessing Duke & Vandy or Gonzaga, or maybe even Memphis. No SLU - no Deighton - no VCR U.

I would like to meet you in real life. Seems like it might be a fun time.
