saw Creighton won today 101-49...

for the game 23 3's taken to 70 attempts. Still 32.9% of shots which is much lower than normal....

1st half 9/34 attempts 3's. 26.5%.

for the trip- 63/241 shots taken were 3's. only 26.1%. And only shot 17/63 from 3 point range. Really does feel like they're trying to de-emphasize the 3 to some degree just looking at the stats.

Another thing- free throw shooting. For the trip only 44/70. 62.9%. Last year they shot 72.5%.

Yep. Not bad for summertime exhibition games. The comraderie and bonding (and the 10 days of real practices) are the true benefits of these summer trips.

Not too concerned about the FT shooting as that can be remedied by individual practice (more FT reps). Not at all concerned about the 3 pt shooting as I hope CU shoots less 3's this season anyways. I am a bit dissappointed that the team only put up 70 shots in today's game. I was is pig heaven the last 2 games with shots in the 80's. For a team lacking in shooting efficiency, I really think Creighton ought to model this years' team around the Cincy or 'Bama model (put up earlier shots, rebound like hell, hoping for 2nd and 3rd chance putbacks and/or a foul). Unfortunately on this count I am the Lone Ranger, as almost no one else on our boards agrees.

Italy was evidently a great experience for the guys and should make for faster progression in the October practice sessions. We've got 3 ctrs and 3 good PF's, I hope the Plan is to pound the paint with all 6 in rotation. Guess Creighton not shooting 3's will give the league coaches something to ponder until the season starts. Anyways - these exhibitions give the coaching staff plenty of videos to work with and to use for team and individual improvement/growth. Looking forward to seeing G'twn and Marquette video of their vacations in Italy.

Part of the only 70 shots is that they went to the line 32 times today. Free throws when a shooter is fouled and the shot not made it doesn't count as a FG attempt. The other 2 games they went to the line 38 times combined. So that has at least something to do with the fewer shot attempts today.

Where the 3 point shooting will be important is if you do play like you say pound the paint- you need 3 point shooting to keep teams from just packing the lane.... I don't think in 2015 basketball you can play without the 3 point shooting being at least somewhat of a weapon. Now you don't have to be like you guys 2 years ago of course, but it has to be a threat at least.

Creighton wins 101-49 over Foligno today. For the trip, Creighton had five men average in double-figures, with all five seeing their first action in Blue & White. Cole Huff’s 14.3 points per game led the team on the trip, just ahead of Thomas (13.7), Malik Albert (12.7), Martin Krampelj (12.0) and Watson (10.3). Watson led the squad with 20 assists on the trip, while Thomas, Krampelj and returner Zach Hanson paced the club with 19 rebounds overall.

Video highlights of today's game.

This should be an exciting year for CU and our fans- of the top 5 scorers for the tournament, all are new faces; not one has played a minute during the season for Creighton .

One thing to keep in mind about 3 point shooting is that the international line is around a foot further out than the NCAA line. I doubt any coaches are emphasizing free throw shooting at this point.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

that's a fair point, but I know as a coach, kids will find the line no matter what level it's at.... I'd say it's more of an impact on the shooting percentage than an impact on how much they are utilizing the 3 point shot.

You really can't take anything from this trip playing Euro YMCA rec league teams. That being said:

I think Creighton is going to be the surprise team of the BE this year, much like Butler was last year. They played so many close nip and tuck games last year. I think them and Marq. fight it out for 5th place and a possible NCAA bid, but none of that is based on this Italy trip. Huff and Watson are 2 impact transfers, plus they add some young talent, length, and athleticism.

I do and don't agree with you....

95% of the stats, I agree with you on them not meaning anything...

but the 3pt percentage of shots- I mean Creighton 2 years ago, would they EVER have a game where they only shot 26% of their shots as 3's? No flipping way.

AS far as Creighton/Marquette- I hope if what you are saying is true- that Creighton is the one who is 5th. Their schedule is better than Marquette's- so should be able if they finish 9-9 in conference or 10-8 be a lot more viable to the committee to make the tourney.
