Yeah, that one is really close. And at least there, it doesn't matter since there's only 4 teams, and 2/3 play each other in the SF.

kind of interesting Creighton with a game on the 28th.

Any word yet on the NYE marathon? Man I hope that's a no go this year going up against the CFP.

I could absoltely care less about the college football games and would be disappointed and surprised if we don't have a Big East NYE.

Matt Velazquez, the beat writer for Marquette, had this blurb in today's column.

Marquette expects to open the Big East season at home, but it might not be as part of a New Year's Eve marathon as the conference has done each of the past two years. The Golden Eagles anticipate their conference opener will be on Dec. 30, not Dec. 31. That change could be due to the College Football Playoff, which will hold its semifinals and draw a lot of television viewership on Dec. 31.

It looks as though the league will not be continuing the NYE marathon. Personally, I loved it - but I think it would be absolutely foolish to try and compete against the CFP. No one, except crazy fans like us, will tune in.

That's a huge bummer. Really, really liked the NYE games. Could've developed into a great tradition for the Big East.

I don't blame the Big East for deciding not to do it, though. We aren't going to be able to compete against the CFP.

I just don't think it's a surprise at all. It's a great concept, and if College Football hadn't changed to the CFP, it could have easily continued. But reality is college football did change to the CFP. And it's impossible to compete against it. I just don't see how it could be a surprise to anyone if they in fact move it off of NYE. It's not a shocker at all. Fox needs the opening games to get good ratings... Not to mention in 2 years, the NFL will have games on 12/31.

If anything, I'm surprised they aren't having the opening games on Sat 1/2. have the marathon then- with 2 games on Big Fox even. That's what they should do.

I liked the NYE marathon setup as well, but this change will help my wallet. Xavier hosted the Hoyas in the 10:00 game last year. Because my buddy and I going to the game expected to have some libations that evening, we Ubered. Cost going...$30. Cost to go home around 1:00...$125. That's "dynamic pricing" for you, but that increase almost had us calling our wives for a lift home....almost.
Xavier will surprise. Never count them out of the Dance.

In case folks are wondering why they would make this switch...

last year-
Butler/Villanova 114k
Georgetown/Xavier 114k
Creighton/PC 105k
St Johns/Seton Hall 82k
Marquette/DePaul 78k

So 2 matchups of what would be NCAA tourney teams only got 114k each. Had really 3 premium matchups when you include St Johns/Seton Hall- plus rematch of the prior year title game- and only averaged for the day 98.6 k viewers. And that was going up against a 42-3 Peach Bowl, and an exciting Fiesta Bowl(albeit Boise/Arizona- hardly huge names)- along with an Orange Bowl that wasn't all that attractive either. This year, it's up against Peach Bowl, plus then the 2 semifinals(sf start at 4pm).

No one cares what you think this league which you have zero connection to should do. You were poo pooing this idea from the first announcement. Even when we weren't going up against the CFP all you could talk about was how in the future it was going to clash with the CFP instead of f---ing enjoying it while it was happening. You aren't a fan of this league nor any of it's teams and your continued campaign to bad mouth and smear this league isn't welcomed by anyone here.
