If your response is to me, I'm not sure where you're getting the 12,500 number. If the bowl was totally enclosed, the total seats would be closer to 15,000 if not more.
Until the Cintas Center is sold out for the vast majority of games through a season (I mean a full 10,250), I see no reason in expanding the arena. We're not at that point.

If 12500 fans could be supported, why did they build it the way they did? 98 percent of on or off campus arenas that have adjacent office/ training/ classrooms/ cafeterias are not attached like they did to Cintas. Its almost like they built the arena in a confined space up against an existing building. They only thing I can think of is that it was less expensive to build the complex with a shared wall. They took the trade off of losing those seats and the effect of fan support from a 360 perspective to save a few bucks. Plus it is unattractive and unbalanced. I guess our athletic dept could make some revune by projecting movies up against that wall for us fans and have a "movie night", or place one large scoreboard there.
Does anyone know the history of the OSU horseshoe and why it was built that way (and eventually finshed with seats in the open part a few years ago?

SATO, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't see the "unattractive and unbalanced" aspects of the Cintas Center as you do. I also don't see any reason for you to have interjected Ohio State's football stadium into the conversation. That's a totally different sport at a totally different type of institution.
Generally speaking (i.e. not speaking only to SATO), I am of the belief that $25,000,000 would probably not be nearly enough to round out the interior of the Cintas Center thus increasing its capacity somewhat significantly. Furthermore, the cash would not be there to add the other improvements currently being proposed. It's true that Xavier already has proven that it can routinely fill the Cintas more often than not with its average attendance being about 98% of capacity. But there is no basis for anyone to believe that the Muskies could consistently draw 12,000 - 13,000 fans at home. Furthermore, there would also be the problem of finding about 20% more space for parking those additional 2,000 - 3,000 fans' cars in case that additional number DID regularly attend the games!
Xavier is just now beginning to experience a rise in its endowment from embarrassingly low to simply low. Having to dip into it for financing iffy projects that may never fully pay back the investment could have long-range damaging effects to the University.

There are conference centers, meeting rooms, duff, offices and other rooms that would have to be sacrificed in order to complete the bowl. Those rooms are rented out on a rather regular basis, and are revenue generators that go beyond Cintas just being an arena. On top of that, if the bowl was completed, it would raise the capacity by about 20% (a guess, but let's go with that). Cintas doesn't need, nor want, to add to get over 12,000. I quote from the recent press release "I'd much rather have a smaller arena with a great atmosphere," Christopher says, "than a huge impersonal facility. We don't want to weaken that home-court advantage."
I'm excited to see how the Joseph Club looks when they make it open air to the arena and I also thought that they were looking to do the same thing with the Duff center too. That will look pretty slick, IMO.
