For Creighton, out of conference, it has to be the Huskers. I know basketball-centric fans might consider that idea laughable, but I'm reading the question more broadly. The Huskers have one of the most well-rounded athletic departments going, and they've enjoyed a respectable amount of well-deserved success in several sports, men and women. It's tough competing with the attention they receive, even if we've had the upper hand in basketball recently. That makes them a great rival. For native Nebraskans, like myself, it's complicated by loyalties to the football program (my high school football teammate won an Outland Trophy and national championship with the '94 Huskers). The rivalry is mostly civil. It will get stronger with the Big 10 vs. Big East angle.

In conference, it's very possible Marquette or DePaul could emerge as rivals, due to past history. Both those schools picked on Creighton in the past, but I think our athletics programs are much more competitive now (in BB, we're 5-1 vs. DePaul and 3-1 vs. Marquette since joining the BE). Providence is fast becoming a nemesis. We're just 1-4 versus the Friars in BB, including our first Big East loss ever, our BE opening loss this year and a heartbreaking BE tournament championship loss for Dougie last year. Plus, in soccer, the Friars are already 3-1 against the Jays, including two tournament elimination wins. I think Providence could be a fun rivalry just because we're so different and so far apart. It's time to go on a winning streak versus the Friars.
Go Jays.

Really? I've never met any other fellow BU fans who would pick Creighton as our biggest conference rival. Xavier is the clear front-runner followed by Marquette.

You have to consider the source. Between him and Edrick you guys have the two biggest clanging gongs on the forum. Which is saying something when both are worse than our own Gtmo.

Both used to piss me off but since the forum has been around awhile I have gotten used to their nonsense and generally just skip them both, and don't hold their comments against the BU fanbase. Hopefully you'll do the same when Gtmo posts.

I'd never judge a fanbase or school based on message board posters. If I did, I'd hate everyone, my own schools included.

Out of conference - if we can resign a deal with Cal - that has the makings of a good rivalry. We have signed ASU (and have played twice recently in exempt tourneys) to a H&H - it has the makings of a rivalry. Hopefully we continue the series with Oklahoma, and then there is Always Fresno St.

What are you smoking gtmo? I cannot think of a single Jays fan who would answer the question "Who does your fan base hate the most . . . out of conference?" by answering Cal, ASU, or Oklahoma. None. Why the heck would Jays fans have a hatred for Cal or ASU? And we haven't played Oklahoma regularly and beat them on our home floor last year.

If you poll a thousand Jays fans, at least 997 of them will say that our fan base hates Nebraska the most out of conference. It's a function of having to deal with the ridiculous and unwarranted media lovefest for all things Corn in the state of Nebraska, the delusion of the Husker fanbase, etc. In baseball we've struggled against the Huskers. There is a history between the women's basketball programs and a growing rivalry between the volleyball programs. And even in men's basketball, where we've had the upper hand, there is a heated dislike between the fan base. This is not even a close call.

Butler and Xavier really don't like each other. Anyone from Butler or Xavier who tells you otherwise is just trying to pretend their school is better than the rivalry. I will say the Butler-Xavier rivalry has certainly changed since the Sean Miller days. I would say that was the peak of the hatred between the two schools. I think there is a little more mutual respect now, but that isn't really saying much because it was essentially non-existent in the past.

Out of conference, we don't like IU. Really no "hatred" for anyone else. You could say there's a little hostility with some of the other in-state schools, but there isn't really much there.

I, too, don't get the Creighton hatred, but I guess we are all different. Though, I could see a rivalry developing with them or Marquette due to geography. I could also see something possibly develop with St. John's. This past year's game at Hinkle was pretty chippy.

I would say in conference it has to be Georgetown. I feel like we are both the top teams in the conference RIGHT NOW (could obviously change). Personally for me though, I look forward to the St. John's games the most every year because I grew up in St. John's country and have been butting heads with St. John's fans for over 25 years. Also, I love watching Villanova play at MSG. No offense to St. John's fans but I think Villanova has won like the last 14 out of 15 so it hasn't been too close lately but I expect Mullin to change that.

Out of conference I look forward to the St. Joe's game, or THE HOLY WAR, as it is affectionately called in the Philly area. I think the last time it was interesting was in 2004 when The Joes had Jameer and Delonte, but as one of my Nova brethren pointed out, in recent years it has been more like watching somebody sell an inmate for a pack of cigarettes. My Nova brethren is right in also pointing out that a lot of Joes fans are delusional, but I think even they are starting to realize how far the gap has widened.

Josey,

Since when does playing the "children of the corn" once a year constitute a "rivalry"? Had you bothered to read my post you would see that I was stating those teams mentioned are potential budding rivalries, I did not stay they were existing rivals.

I agree that many of our board members have what appears to be an obsession with Harry Husker and his crew. I definitely lack your local perspective as I am a military career person and have not resided in Nebraska for 3 decades. Fortunately Creighton has students and alums from many parts of the country and many parts of the world, not everyone holds dear to the Omaha perspective. Perhaps you'd be good enough to send me a bottle of MUD's finest Missouri River water, so that I can get on the same page attitudinally with the 997 of you who think alike? There has to be sumthin' in that water to register such overwhelming conformity?

I don't know if it's most hated or not, but my favorite new rivalry is with Xavier. The game in the BET with them felt like old school BE basketball- more than anything we've seen just about.

I literally grew up on the Butler campus, so it's hard for me to hate them. My 2nd favorite BE team. But I do love beating them. For me, it's 'Nova until we can beat their sorry asses. lol.
Non-con it's always going to X vs Cincinnati. Not even close.
