Assume for a minute that the decision makers put you in charge of expansion. They tell you that two members will be added in 2016-7 no matter what. You have no other information to go on than a 5-year Kenpom ranking average. They tell you with certainty that the new members MUST be private and in the footprint.

(5 year Kenpom averages. STDEV is a measure of consistency, a lower number means more consistent. You have no other information to go on. Existing BE programs provided for comparison purposes.)

Pick two:

Georgetown 31 STDEV 33
Villanova 37 STDEV 23
Xavier 49 STDEV 23
Creighton 51 STDEV 29
Marquette 52 STDEV 35
Butler 61 STDEV 44
Team E 62 STDEV 34
Providence 72 STDEV 26
Team B 78 STDEV 71
St. John's 81 STDEV 44
Seton Hall 88 STDEV 28
Team D 91 STDEV 48
Team A 99 STDEV 68
Team F 106 STDEV 82
DePaul 175 STDEV 59
Team C 230 STDEV 77

I'll come back tomorrow with the names of the anonymous teams so you don't have to look them up.

This was a good post. I was looking forward to identification of the anonymous teams. It's been 2 days. What gives?

Thanks, Bill. Funny that I just caught up on the thread (sorry, the restaurant biz gets crazy sometimes).

Coming right up.

Siena230 STDEV 77

I included Siena because they're a great fit in so many ways - killer location, good facility, good attendance when they're good - but my gosh they're terribad historically.

I always thought Duquesne could be a great fit if they ever had a real commitment to big time hoops. But their numbers are close to SiSiena's.

I've got more numbers to share along the same lines in a bit. They're interesting. (And yes, I included some publics, football schools, and schools outside the footprint.)

Holy shit, seriously, SIENA? AGAIN, enough with the mid-major bullsh--. We might as well bring in St. Anthony's High School.

What school do you root for? Honestly? No way it is one of the old Big East teams. Some of you new guys need to change your mentality.

I am sorry to be insulting, but ENOUGH..... F'ING SIENA!?!?!?!?!?!

You bring up an interesting point…fans of the original BE members are sick of talking about adding Mid-Major teams. Georgetown is a national brand and the crown jewel of this conference. I want to see schools on the same tier as them when expansion is talked about. Problem is there are no teams out there that fit the description. UCONN is not dropping down in FB and Gonzaga is too far away.

The rest of the teams being discussed are Mid-Major teams that have satisfied the public’s “what have you done for me lately” requirement. Go back 10 years and not a single one of those schools would even be considered as a potential add. Congrats on a couple of years of success but don’t think that means you are qualified to join Georgetown’s conference.

Hi chestrockwell, since sienna and st Bonnie's are a no go....what about Fordham? New coach, NYC, private, no football

I know if it was up to you we'd add UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Arizona, and Kansas.

A couple of years ago there were published reports/rumors that Siena was one of the schools on the short list for consideration. Speculation that market and their ability to draw big crowds in Albany was the basis for looking at them. So, it's not absurd to include them especially when the post makes it clear that it's just for the heck of it.

Hoopfan, you ever been to Fordham's gym? You think St. John's would add them? VCU, St. Louis, Dayton, Gonzaga we can make a case for. Siena or Fordham, are you kidding?

What school do you root for? Don't avoid the question, just answer it. Mid-major mentality has got to go.

PS - Fordham does have a very competitive Patriot League football team, they beat Temple recently. Regardless, don't twist my words that I am looking to add teams that would clearly never join. I also have enough common sense to know that a team like BC or Wake Forest would never join us either. I think we are FINE the way we are right now until teams start to separate themselves or if Gonzaga relocates about 3,000 miles East.

This board has turned into every mid-major fan trying to make a case for their team to join.

Hey, I am a Villanova football fan, Villanova lost to BC 24-14 at BC in 2013 and lost to Syracuse by 1 point in OT at The Dome in 2014. They would not be a great ACC football team but they could compete especially with the 30 extra scholarships. Villanova will probably also beat UConn in football this year. Do Villanova fans waste their time begging the ACC for acceptance? No, because reality has set in we don't make sense for them. Guess what? Teams like Siena and Fordham don't make sense for us. Move on.
