Boy Xavier fans on here know everything about Dayton. About the OOC Dayton has had a hard time getting good teams to come to Dayton and play them. And as far as replacing coaches, Dayton has done a good job. Btw I'm a Dayton fan but I also use to love the Big East when I was a kid

Just checking Kenpom because it's very user-friendly, Dayton's non-conference schedule has been ranked in the top 100 only three times (2002, 2003, 2010) in the years covered (2002-2015) and has never been higher than 159th under Archie Miller.

Gonzaga in that same span of time has had a top 100 schedule in all but two years (2012, 2014) and has had six top 50 schedules, which goes a long way in explaining the disparity in OOC winning percentage. I think Gonzaga is overrated by the media, but they are still on a whole different level from Dayton.

2014-2015: OOC RPI = 46, OOC SOS = 161
2013-2014: OOC RPI = 41, OOC SOS = 88
2012-2013: OOC RPI = 88, OOC SOS = 197
2011-2012: OOC RPI = 88, OOC SOS = 113
2010-2011: OOC RPI = 62, OOC SOS = 53

I always like Dayton until:

1) I met their online fanbase.
2) They heckled their HOF alumni Christie Mack making her cry at the game.

Anyway, if I were X. I would try to keep them out simply because they are so close geographically. We already have Butler pretty close and we are fighting them for recruits (Bluiett and Macura I believe.)

Yes, Dayton's OOC scheduing has been ridiculously excellent. SOS ranks are meaningless to everyone else but the team.

OOC Wins help the rest of your league. More losses to better teams helps Gonzaga, but hurt you. (Obviously, Gonzaga's 2014-15 OOC schedule would be amazingly helpful for the Big East... till Gonzaga beats Big East teams).

UD's OOC performance vs their schedules has been ridiculously excellent for their league's RPIs. THAT is what you WANT.

FWIW I do appreciate keeping all the Dayton trolls posts in one thread.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

I gues Xavier is not worried about Cincinnati Louisville or Kentucky in recruiting but Dayton omg we can't have them in league bc they will hurt our recruiting

I don't either. There is 118 miles between Butler and X so says Google maps. Using that as the standard SJU has 2 BE teams in that bubble. Nova is 117 miles and Seton Hall is 29. Going back to the old Big East you then had UConn who is 135 miles and Providence at 178 miles, BC just over 200 miles away (204 to be precise) and Georgetown sits at 253 miles away.

Now lets look at how close everyone is to X. Butler is 118 miles away, DePaul is 298 miles, Marquette is 390 miles away and Creighton is 718 miles away. Oh and Dayton is 48 miles away.

We been fighting with all of these guys for recruits for the last 30+ years.

Trying to follow all the reasons for/against adding teams to the conference.
If the information on Fox is correct, they would only pay to add 2 teams and keep the money per team the same.
The advantage to 10 (and the round robin) is assumedly for the fans more than anything else (rivalries, even chance each year, etc.) more so than anything else (TV ratings, inventory, etc.)

Looking at this year's NCAA slots seems to help. Here are the RPI, conferences, number of team, NCAA bids and percentage of teams invited:

1 Big Twelve 10 - 7 - 70%
4 Big Ten 14 - 7 - 50%
3 ACC 15 - 6 - 40%
2 Big East 10 - 6 - 60%
5 SEC 14 - 5 - 36%
6 Pac Twelve 12 - 3 - 25%

11 Mountain West 11 - 4 - 36%
7 Atlantic Ten 14 - 3 - 21%
8 American 11 - 2 - 18%

There just doesn't seem to be much benefit to adding more teams and losing the round robin.
If the Big 12 can get 7 teams in, and we can get 6 in, while conferences with 15, 14 and 12 members do no better, or even worse, it seems to be more of doing what we did this year, than anything else. Maybe the 11th and 12th members help the math as JP contends with good data, but it's not determinative.

I don't see how the geography argument is hard to understand. Right now the BE elevates X to the biggest program in SW Ohio. It's natural to want to preserve that status. Dayton probably won't surpass X if they joined the BE but they definitely won't if they stay in A10.
