This is the difference between our previous conference and the BigE. Previously fans of other programs in the same conference would be rooting against X in the S16 for fear of X's program looking better, getting recruits or just pure jealousy. In the BigE, we all recognize our cumulative success benefits all of us. Wish us luck, we could use some good bounces in this one! Go X!!

Seriously, I'm not so sure it will come, at least it won't come at the same toxic level that XU-XHI just described.

The Big East has been a truly refreshing experience so far. I'm still getting used to multiple in-season losses in conference - that didn't happen too much in the A10 - but three things are facts with me:

1. I find myself pulling for every team in this conference in their OOC schedules and during post-season play.

2. With only one or two exceptions at this point - and I even see that changing - when Xavier loses in conference, it doesn't blow a gasket with me, knowing this conference is strong.

3. I actually watch other Big East games (i.e. not Xavier) on FS1 and find them enjoyable; I never used to watch other A10 teams play.

We have a great thing going here. We're in our second year of a very long-term relationship that is strongly supported by long-term commitments from Fox and MSG.

There is no other way to look at the Big East's trend line other than to acknowledge that it is trending up, and that it is doing so as evidenced by its recruiting success, slowly building Fox numbers, and above acceptable BET attendance figures at this point.

Consider what will happen when St. Johns and DePaul get their coaching positions figured out with the right guys.

We're not expected to get past AZ Thursday night. If that happens, then the Big East will have gotten one team to the S16 this year and we'll take some heat from that. Fine. Life moves on, and we continue to move in the right direction. Did Villanova embarrass us this year? A resounding "no" to that question. All Nova did was to stay in the Top 10 most of the year and secure a #1 Seed for this conference. It didn't work out well from there, but that's the NCAA Tournament. Sh!t happens.

Body of work. We went from a rather disappointing first year out of the gate to this season. It was material positive improvement by any measure. I like where we're headed with the 10 of us heading there. The rivalries may warm-up, but this thing seems to be a little more unique, in that it has every opportunity to be intense but respectful; it has the opportunity to be passionate without being toxic. It will never achieve Army:Navy, but at least it doesn't have to be XU:UC, KY:UL, etc.
