One thing to remember about the flagrant- even if it's not called as a flagrant it's still a foul. Dunn got caught reaching into the cookie jar a minute later. Now the question is, would he have done that same thing if he hadn't been called for the flagrant? Very possibly.

About the FT difference- 8 of the FT were shot in the last 80 seconds of the game by Dayton when PC was trying to foul on purpose. So the difference was really 22-7. Still bad, but not crazy.

Bottom line, when Henton and Dunn shoot 11-39 from the field- you aren't going to win many games. I thought PC settled way too much for outside shots.

Oh- the idiot who called the T- I think it's Tom Eades. His 40th T of the season. He's tied for 2nd for the season in most T's called. Don't think he needs to be doing any more games....

I remember watching a game between the Hoyas and #15 seed Hampton (who had upset #2 seed Iowa St.). A couple minutes left in the game, the Hoyas went to the line shooting it's first free throw. It was 28-1 at that point. HAMPTON, not Duke or Syracuse but Hampton. Mike Sweetney had fouled out with 16 minutes left. Hoyas led by 15-20 points most of the game, so it didn't matter, but officiating is just embarrassing at times.
Free throws at halftime tonight was 16-1. Dayton can play very aggressively, the Friars don't have that luxury. Tends to make a difference, especially on the road.

PC is MUCH better than they showed tonight. I hope all you Providence fans are hanging in there. I said it before, you guys were a legit elite 8 team this year, unfortunately college basketball teams have off nights, that is why the tournament is so crazy and picking a perfect bracket is literally next to impossible.

Ed Cooley is the man. You guys are in good hands.

Dayton fan's thoughts on the game/ rebuttal:

Foul shot discrepancy According to kenpom, Dayton is 2nd in the country at getting to the free throw line (Providence #226). We don't play every game at home. Were just fast. So we catch alot of bigger players out of position & don't get caught ourselves. Plus, at least 8 of those FTs came under 2 mins when PC was fouling intentionally. Agree, Dunn's elbow was not a flagrant but was a foul (cost PC 2 pts). And the bench technical was horrible, but we were up 8 at that point w/ the ball (only cost PC 1 pt).

Home court advantage Honestly, Dayton fans are gonna outnumber PC anywhere. We brought the most fans to Maui last yr and Puerto Rico this yr in early yr tournaments. And did the same in last yrs tournament in Memphis & Buffalo, albeit Syracuse fans outnumbered us in Buffalo. Name a host city this yr that would have given PC the home court advantage over us. There isn't one. I guess Pittsburgh is closer for you but we out numbered Duquesne fans at their own home game this yr. I know you want to say its an advantage having it in Columbus, which it certainly is. I'm just here to tell you we were gonna have it anyway.

Not trying to troll. Just like to prove the doubters wrong (i.e. the "why's it a only 3 pt line?" and "PC wins this by 10 easily" guys). Dayton players had a big chip on their shoulder being told they were the last team out. And Dayton fans have a chip on their shoulder because the NBE told us we werent needed. Its probably worked out best for both. But given the invite now, I'd have to think about it. Be a PC in the BE w/ 0 wins in NCAA since '97 or be a top dweller in the A10 and have 5 wins the last 2 yrs and counting.

The Flyers would have likely finished 8th in the Big East this year behind the six teams who made the NCAAs and Seton Hall. Dunn and Henton will prove to be too much for them.

Some interesting thoughts! We made the tournament because we earned the spot--even if like most/many across the country have said since Sunday we got screwed with an 11th seed and a playin'.

We've now played our fifth game in 8 days and have a roster that consists of 6 scholarship players and a engineering student who walked on and played less than 10 minutes his first year and a half with the team until he was forced into duty because of injuries and because of other roster issues! Those are the facts----make all the excuses you want for losing......but they are excuses!

We lose only Sibert and have one junior on the roster. The team played in the elite 8 last year!

I understand being frustrated with losing. But the better team won tonight...we've been winning a lot the past 2 years and by all indications that will continue next year and the year after.

Good luck to buckets and Dunn is a stud! I've been following the flyers for 30+ years and we always/often have the most and the most vocal fans in these kinds of situations and tournaments! Don't see that changing and we know it helps our kids! The NCAA told us who and where to play------we just showed up just like the rest of you!

Thought the T was the worst one I've seen in a long time. Referees can not let that happen.

Dayton had to be tired coming into the game. Why didn't PC have a game plan of pressing and running from the first minute of the game. PC was out coached. :?:
