Any chance that JLP gets shown the door as well? After two abysmal hires in Wainwright and Purnell, I don't think she deserves the opportunity to select a third head coach.

Really hoping DePaul gets a good head coach, Demon. I completely agree that Chicago would be all over the Blue Demons again if they're competitive. For the second straight year, Illinois is sending ZERO teams to March Madness. The opportunity is right there for the taking.

I'm not sure how much "say" JLP had with the Purnell hire. They hired a Search Committee after they fired Wainwright in January, and she hired who they told her to hire.

Devil's Advocate when it comes to JLP... Most of the programs at the school are in very good shape. She's increased the Athletic Department budget tremendously, she's done a very good job of building new facilities and bringing existing facilities up to par. She's got a brand new arena in the works. The two Men's Basketball hires under her watch have been unmitigated disasters, but you could argue that with that very notable exception, she's performed her job very well.

Perhaps Howland can come in and get things turned around. Make the job attractive for a younger up and comer after he wears out his welcome.

i would be really careful with howland. it was ugly when he left ucla with reports of dysfunction within the program. and his on court success mostly came in the first several years on the job. it was all downhill since then.

Howland fell out of favor at UCLA because he fell out of favor with the Pump brothers and other LA grassroots connections. That would still be a concern somewhat at DePaul, but wouldn't prevent me from hiring him if I were DePaul.
