Yeah agree with the others. I think BE gets 4 teams into the sweet 16: Nova, Butler, Georgetown, Providence and I don't think the seed will play that big a deal. Matchups yes, but Butler will get a 4-5 seed at worst don't think this Xavier game will matter much.

Also Butler losing at Xavier also helps me selfishly. Because I want Georgetown to finish 2nd.

I think that depends. Butler right now is a 4-5 seed projected. A loss here and they could start dropping down towards the 6-7 line. And there is a HUGE difference if they get down towards the 7 line.

Butler's seed won't take that much of a hit for a road loss to another NCAA Tournament team. Certainly not enough to change their fortunes from likely sweet 16 run to probable first round exit. A Xavier win helps Xavier a lot more than it hurts Butler.

The 1st round isn't the issue. It's more the 2nd round.

Just look at Lunardi's bracket math. He's got Butler at 19 right now. That's 5 line. a loss to Xavier could easily drop them 2 spots down to 21 and the 6 line. Especially considering Butler has games left with Georgetown and PC- they could easily drop down to the 7 or 8 line. That's what we need to avoid.

I'd like as many BE teams in the NCAA's as possible.

Kentucky is the only team that a BE tourney team would have difficulty with.
The only seed that would suck is the 8-9 and 5-4 in Kentucky's region.

Whether Butler gets a 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or whatever... they're capable of beating anyone.

At the same time, Xavier getting a 9, 10, 11, or 12 is fine with me... lines them up against maybe Notre Dame, West Virginia, Utah, Maryland, Northern Iowa... X is totally capable of winning any game like that.

I feel the same way about St John's with a healthy Harrison.

Butler seems to fare pretty well as an 8.

Go X.

Besides, its really more about the matchups in the tournament and not so much the seeding (at least if you are talking about moving only a spot or two). Creighton got a great seed last year, but there could not have been a worse 3rd round opponent for us than Baylor. We probably beat any other team with the same seed, and could have competed against many of the higher seeded teams, but the matchups against Baylor were insurmountable. Of course, no one wants to be in the 8/9 opposite Kentucky or Virginia. Outside of those two, I don't think any #1 seed is unbeatable by an 8/9. And frankly, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kentucky go down in the 8/9 matchup. They continue to play with fire and could get burned when the real pressure is on where it is lose and you are done.

Just a note, the "First Four" is no longer the 1st round. I dont know what it is called, but the round of 64 is back to being the 1st round again, thank God

SJU gets Seton Hall without Gibbs. How lucky.

Butler won't be favored against Xavier without Chrab in the lineup. There has been no updates on Chrab's time out. If he can get back by March 3, we'll be fine. Lose at X, pick up a W against either Marquette or DePaul, we'll still be ok as a 5-8 seed.

Minor update on Chrab: Holtmann said Chrabascz's surgery was a success and he's resumed conditioning drills. He might be cleared to return to basketball drills next week, Holtmann said. We also found out that Wideman had the flu against Creighton, hence his very limited minutes. He spent most of the first half hugging the porcelain container.
