Good thing that new arena is closer to campus.

I really think that the new arena has to help attendance. Having good teams helps and they are better this year, so tonight is a little surprising (at least how really empty the arena looks). Sometimes the novelty and perks of a new arena will draw new fans for the first few years, then it's up to the team to give them a reason to keep coming back!

Xavier win deserves its own thread

hUGE win!

Out of conference win over a top 50 team in February for x-men as they sit on the bubble cannot be understated.

That's 11 out if the last 15 for the x-men over the community college of Cincinnati.

As a fan of the old big east, it was tough losing uconn and Syracuse (Louisville still had a new feel, notre dame and Pitt were always blah). And while losing those two was a big hit, we gained the round robin format, fox sports 1 over espn, we got rid of rutgers, and trading Xavier for cincy is a huge plus. (And we also gained butler and the jays which were awesome additions)

I'm not really sold on this Xavier team as one of their better teams from the last ten years or one that I think will do damage in the tourney, but this was an awesome win to hopefully put our 6th team in the dance. The mere fact that Xavier can make the dance in their down years is a great attribute.

Great win!

DePaul is a fun team to watch lately, they have good young players. I can't believe that more people don't show up. They could actually be good next year, and the foundation is being laid this yr.

Why did Blueitt play only 12 minutes. That really surprises me. He wasn't in foul trouble. :?:

He was terrible until he made the free throws at the end. Mack went with the taller Farr.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

Very nice win for Xavier! I knew the AAC would collapse once L'Ville left. UConn also predictably took a huge step back after distancing themselves from the Calhoun old Big East era. Cincy and Memphis aren't doing much either. SMU came back down to earth as well. And to think people were saying they were the better conference.

I'm assuming PC won. I knew DePaul was due to fall back to earth.

For those of you who think they know DePaul basketball......the reason there is no one in the seats in an 18,500 seat arena is because this program has been losing for 20+ years. And yes, I am still attending every game. If DePaul can ever start winning CONSISTENTLY again, then you will see butts in the seats. Trust me on this one as I have been seating in these seats for 47 years!

Yes, I left the arena last night ticked off as heck but Providence is a better team and has better individuals than DePaul. Purnell got completely outcoached last night. He has no offensive scheme when his teams do not press full court and play 40 minutes of hell basketball. And he has never made this work here at DePaul thus his terrible record. That is all he knows.

Most of the diehards have given up tickets until AD Ponsetto and Purnell are gone.

DePaul should be one of the best teams in this conference year after year with the talent in their own backyard. But it takes a solid coach, great recruiting and $$$$ to land these local Chicago players as recruits.

IMO....the next hire here at DePaul is the most significant hire since the Meyer days. Main reason is the new stadium is on its way.

Chicago is the best sports city in the country and includes EVERY sport available, which is good and bad. When a team succeeds in this town, the media alone will take it to great heights.

Like I said in the "Purnell" thread that I started, those few wins that they got were nice but that's just a small sample size and now they've come back down to Earth. When judging a coach, you need to look at the big picture and Purnell is simply not the right man for the job. I want DePaul to become relevant, the upside that the program has (especially with all of the talent in their backyard) is SUPER high. But I don't think they'll ever become relevant under him and they should hire someone like Ben Jacobsen of UNI or Ben Howland.

So lets see. SMU in(coming back down to earth? they are 20-5 with a 24 RPI). Temple back after a bad year last year. Cincy in NCAA tourney position. Tulsa square on the bubble but still doing pretty well. I mean if the AAC can get 4 teams in this year- without UConn or Memphis? That's far from a collapse.
