But I can fault lavin for zero tournament wins in half a decade and not even sniffing the dance in the past few years. You can't blame that all on two early exists. Every coach deals with early exists and/or big recruits who don't pan out. And while that is a valid excuse, it is not a Safety blanket as Part of coaching is adjusting.

I hope lavin succeeds. I think he is good for the conference. He has had tournament success, he is a high visibility coach, I want him to do well. I like how he came in right away and danced, and I give him some slack due to the heltah issues, but the last three years have not been good. This yr is still up in the air.

If the johnnies flame out this season, then it is time to cut the chord.

Danny Hurley is definitely going to be the name.

He obviously has more ties than anyone could ever ask for in New Jersey, but he's only been a head coach for three years at the college level.

2015: 17-6 this year, but rpi doesn't really have them in the tourney picture.

Right, as EMT* mentioned, Danny Hurley's coaching record is:
2011 - Wagner 13-17.
2012 - Wagner 25-6.
2013 - Rhody 8-21.
2014 - Rhody 14-18.
2015 - Rhody 17-6 so far.

He definitely has URI moving in the right direction. He's a good coach, good recruiter, and entertaining on the sidelines. He and Ed Cooley almost got into a fistfight at our game down in Kingston last year. Seton Hall alum, and his father has coached HS ball in New Jersey for decades.

If changes had to be made, i would put:
Seton Hall ---> Danny Hurley.
St John's ---> Billy Donovan.
DePaul ---> Phil Jackson, Jamie Dixon, or Brian Wardle.

The other 7 schools in the Big East have great fits already.

* side note to non old skool Friar fans... "EMT" refers to "Eric Murdock Time". Murdock was a Friar star from 88 to 91. Carried the team on his back in 91, when he averaged 25 points a game, 5.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 3.5 steals, in a 7-bid Big East.

I do not think Lavin is getting it done at St. John's. Even if they make the tournament this year. I think someone else could be doing a better job.

Name me one who is actually available and wants to come to St. John's. I don't remember ny of these other guys being candidates for the job when Lavin was hired.

Um they were on the bubble before Harrison was suspended for the rest of the season (Not many coaches would have suspended their best player when they are fighting for a tourny birth and in the end was the right call to get Harrison to mature into a high quality player) and last year where we were one of the first teams OUT. I don't know where you pulled that out of that we haven't sniffed the tourny the past few years. This is his 5th year. He made the dance the first year, had his only losing season the following year (Cancer battle/All freshmen), was on the bubble his 3rd year and missed out and were one of the last teams out last year.

Like I said, he has improved the team every single season since these seniors came in.

As I have said to my fellow Johnnies fans who were on here losing their minds before the season started when they were saying how we were doomed because Sampson left and everyone else stunk except Jordan. Lets let him fail before we call him a failure okay? As of now he isn't failing and we are certainly in the hunt for a bid and have been moving up the standings with each Big East win. We had a bad stretch, lots of teams have those throughout a season. We have won our last 3 games and are just 3 wins shy of 20 and have a good RPI and SOS. So once again lets let Lavin fail before we call him a failure.

Right on NJRedman! You are so right. Very few have any clue how tough the St. John's job is away from the court with the many AAU distractions in NYC. Lavin handles it all with a ton of class. Gives one a whole new level of respect for Lou Carneseca.
