The evil "r" word that is only meant to shut down conversations that really need to take place. You might as well call me a "stupid face" or a "big dummy". Has the same effect (means nothing). So I'm the bad guy for saying inner-city kids are much more known for trash talking, aggressive play, and showboating compared to white farm kids? It's just the freaking truth. Sorry if you like it, don't shoot the messenger. Sometimes 2+2 just equals 4 and you can't dispute it. There is most certainly a cultural aspect. You see much more aggression in inner-cities than in rural or suburban areas. Much more. Violence is much more common and people growing up there become more desensitized. It becomes the norm. So yes, it's a real cultural thing that can translate into hoops and playing styles on the court. Now excuse me while I get my white hood fitted for pointing out facts.
I never said it applies to ALL inner-city players. It's one of those things where not all inner-city kids play that way, but if someone is trash talking or throwing elbows, it's usually a kid from NYC, Chicago, Philly, or some other inner-city area. Does it happen in Iowa? Sure, just not nearly as much. Rates are different.
By the way, Harrison can trash talk. He backs it up. He's a Wooden nominee. He's the 3rd all time scorer in SJU history with many very good players coming through here over 100 years. Trash talking is fine if you back it up. Some play better with that chip on their shoulder. I get that the TEAM doesn't back it up, but I have no problem with Harrison doing it.
It's just funny to me that all these very, very common things like trash talking, arguing with refs, and getting physical are all attributed to SJU while every single team does the same thing. There seems to be a massive double standard. When SJU does it, it's bad. But when everyone else does it, eh oh well. With that said, Lavin is an awful coach and will never take an SJU team to the tourney mark my words. He can get all 5 star players and the team would still fall flat. You all act like SJU fans are these loud, arrogant, blind people who still think it's 1985. A good portion of us are ripping the program apart worse than opposing fans are. We have failed for a decade now. You don't need to rub salt in the wound.
And to RedRooster, yeah I'm so concerned with everyone liking me on an internet forum. What are we in 5th grade? I put my opinions out there and some facts out there. Agree or disagree, I don't care. And if you don't read my posts I won't lose any sleep. You sound like a Redmen.com regular.
