Forget how deep we go…to have 7 teams in line to make the tourney out of 10 for a 70% rate is absurdly high. We are the only conference in America that has teams 1-9 who can easily beat any team any given day ranked or not.

Yes, the national media has a bunch of tools, but I am not exactly disagreeing with them. A few days ago, I posted the below in the linked thread - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4063&start=20

You people complaining, the losses by Nova, St. John's, and PC have more to do with the Big East coming back to Earth than DePaul going 2-0 to start off.

So yes, I am aligned to Goodman's thoughts.

An ESPN analyst saying that a non-ESPN property is overrated? Color me shocked. Next thing you'll see is a Tulane/East Carolina basketball game on ESPN 2. Oh wait...

The only way to shut all this nonsense up is to have some BE teams go deep in the Tournament. Other than Kentucky, I don't see any team that doesn't have flaws and I think Kentucky can lose under the right circumstances. I hope we get 7 in and have teams get much deeper than last year (Sorry, no help from Creighton this year, hopefully next year)

Watching those empty seats for those AAC games on NYE was priceless.

So, Virginia the only ACC team making it to the second weekend in the tournament last year make the league overrated?

Yet there are those who tout Joe Lunardi (an ESPN employee) and his bracketology as evidence/proof that the Big East is an elite conference. So when an employee of ESPN says something negative on the conference, it is because there is a conspiracy against a non-ESPN conference... but when an employee is positive on the conference and gives it credit... no conspiracy exists. Color me shocked as well.

lunardi's bracket gets compared to other countless brackets. He has to stay objective otherwise he loses all credibility. I think the number of teams he guesses correct is like 63 out of 64 any given year. him putting 7 BE teams in the field is a testament to how deep this league truly is and not just his opinion.

The Big east played extremely well OOC and scheduled well. The results + their SOS will sustain the RPI levels of the teams even when everyone is beating everyone else in conference.

The strength of the Big East isn't just Lunardi's opinion. It's supported by computer models which look beyond the immediate RPI like RPI Forecast. Right now they have the projected RPIs of 7 Big East schools in the top 45, which puts all 7 of those teams into the tournament. That's not opinion, it's hard data.

I tout the Big East's successful out of conference record and performance as evidence/proof that the league is an elite conference. I don't need Joe Lunardi to tell me that.

Stu Jackson had an excellent screenshot of ESPN touting the "top" basketball conferences last week (with regards to out-of-conference records), and ESPN "conveniently" left out the Big East. The Big East was 2nd in the country with a .760 winning percentage. Poor research or biased reporting? You tell me.
