Here's how yesterday's games changed things at RPI Forecast:

BIG EAST

5. Villanova
20. Xavier
27. St. John's
28. Seton Hall
30. Butler
38. Providence
46. Georgetown
117. Marquette
127. Creighton
233. DePaul

With every game that they remain undefeated, Villanova's standing just gets stronger. Every win that Seton Hall gets with Whitehead out is huge for them. The loss to DePaul really hurt Marquette as we all knew, but Georgetown dropped more than I thought they would.

We're still looking at 7 teams in position for a tournament bid down the road

Georgetown dropped because of the big margin....

I wouldn't say Georgetown in position for a tourney bid with that. 46 is real fringe tourney with all the auto bids. Remember last year, last at large team was #47. Also being 17-12 as they're projecting- that tough to get in with that record. Would have to beat #2 team in the BET likely to make the tourney.

and I would say to get those ratings, we would have to have 6 and 7 finish with 9-9 records, and maybe 6 does, but 7th place teams just don't finish 9-9 all that much.

This year we are better off with 4 really good teams and hope to squeak in a 5th. We need 4 high rpi teams to get high ncaa seeds and try to get into the 2nd and 3rd weekend.

I'm worried if we get 6 or 7 bids we will have too many mediocre seeds.

It is interesting to read this stuff - any chance you can add links to the site(s) you pull the data from? I'd be interested in looking at some of the other teams which are in the vicinity of the various BE teams.

Margin of victory is not a factor in rpi. Not sure that it is in rpi forecast either (I think they just make every lower ranked rpi team win the matchups, it is not a projector that takes into account offensive and defensive efficiency like kenpom.)

right. However, given that RPI forecast uses the Sagarin predictor ratings to make the ratings, MOV absolutely would come into play there...

I recommend real time rpi, teamrankings and espn rankings as the best. I do have problems with Lunardi however by mid way in the season he is equally accurate. rpiforecast is also good and well worth looking at.

Ken Pomeroy has a good site as well.

CAN ANY OTHER POSTERS ADD ADDITIONAL SITES FOR MPWALSH8? IF SO PLEASE DO SO.

LISTED ARE SEVERAL NON P5 CONFERENCES WHICH WILL HAVE MULTIPLE BIDS IN THE DANCE. CLEARLY OF THESE NON P5 CONFERENCES THE BIG EAST IS FAR AND AWAY SUPERIOR. WHAT IS DISTURBING IS ALL THE MINOR LEAGUE CONFERENCES WHICH RECEIVE AN AUTO BID (IT APPEARS TO BE 20 IN NUMBER) WHICH HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO JUSTIFICATION FOR RECEIVING A BID EXCEPT THAT THEY ARE RECOGNIZED BY THE NCAA AS CONFERENCES.
One understands why the P5 talk of founding a separate division or breaking away from the NCAA.
