Big game for the Friars. A win here puts them in solid footing to make the NCAAs assuming 10 conference wins. A loss and they likely need 11 wins and 1-2 BET victories to make the Dance.

You'd be shocked at how many people think Marquette University is in Michigan or Missouri. I got confused for a Michigan alum while wearing a blue and gold "MU" shirt, and another time while I was wearing a pair of MU bball shorts (the same kind the players wear....kind of distinctive) a woman in the elevator of my building asked me if I went to Mizzou. She's from St. Louis and apparently just associated the MU with Mizzou.

Speaking of St. Louis, SLU does the same thing as your pet peeve, but in reverse, explicitly stating in the media guide that it's "Saint Louis University" not "St. Louis University." They even went so far as to put "SLU" on the baseball team's caps, whereas they had previously used a blue version of the Cardinals' STL caps. My law school classmates even joked that the rather unoriginal fight song included the spelling portion just to drive the point home and make sure people wouldn't forget.

Doesn't help that Marquette and Michigan share the same letters (U and M) and the same color scheme (yellow and blue).

St. John's pulls away from Long Beach State late, and beat them in a rout. 66-49. Another good, defensive performance by the Johnnies. Held LBSU 20 points under their average.

True, they have a tough OOC, but they have lost to every top 100 team they played, except Xavier (current RPI #72).

Friars completely outplay Miami through 20 minutes, yet tied. Dumb fouls, careless turnovers, and some very questionable and-1 call's in favor of Miami.

Marquette pulling away from surprisingly feisty North Dakota late (UND led by 5 at the half).

55-44 Marquette with 6 minutes to play.

UPDATE: Marquette completes the comeback and defeats North Dakota 67-54 leaving all Marquette fans except the ones who bet on them (18.5 pt favorites) happy.

MU Rah Rah moves to 7-4. I don't know what to make of this team. They lose to Omaha and throw a scare like tonight, but if they'd beaten Omaha and assuming MU takes care of business against Morgan State, they would be entering conference play 9-3, with wins over three F5 teams (Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Arizona State), and their only losses would be to arguably the three best teams in the Big Ten (Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin).
