Not exactly RPI, but ESPN released its BPI (Basketball Power Index) rankings for the season- and it looks a little different than some other rankings. I'm not really sure how it compares to other ranking systems in terms of tourney projectio accuracy, but it's something else to look at. As far as the Big East goes, it's higher on both Xavier and Seton Hall than pretty much every other ranking system and lower on basically everyone else. It currently has 5 Big East teams in the tournament with St. John's as the 4th team out (as of 12/17). Links at the bottom of the post for more details)

Rank. Team. BPI Rating, Projected Tourney Seed
15. Xavier. 87.3 rating, 4 seed
16. Villanova. 87.0 rating, 5 seed
19. Seton Hall. 84.3 rating, 5 seed
30. Georgtown. 81.7 rating, 8 seed
45. Butler. 78.3 rating, 12 seed
53. St. John's. 76.1 rating, out
84. Providence. 68.4 rating, out
92. Marquette. 66.9 rating, out
101. Creighton. 64.7 rating, out
135. DePaul. 59.2 rating, out

BPI is a complete joke. Their "formula" (if there even is one), is unknown, which makes it basically useless, since we don't have a darn clue what they are measuring or how much they weigh it (them?).
“Even though I’m not playing I still don’t want my school to be disrespected, because I play for the name on the front of my chest, not the name on my back. I’m a part of this family now, and when they disrespected them they disrespected me”-Mo Watson Jr.

The formula, unfortunately, will always be kept under lock and key because ESPN thinks they have something great with it and they don't want anybody else to be able to calculate this same information and present it elsewhere. I get your skepticism about the "secret formula," but I'm sure it's more than just throwing darts. Its accuracy is typically comparable to kenpom and sagarin. It's actually been noted to be very similar to kenpom.

I'm not saying it's any better or worse than any other ranking system. It's just another one that's out there and unless somebody creates a system that's 100% accurate, that's all any ranking system will ever be.

Good job Marquette. There are variances however most of the rpi rankings you list are very close. ESPN and CBS seem to vary from the norm most.

I feel like the RPI is the least accurate ranking as far as gauging teams. Are other rankings allowed in this thread?
